This week I asked the inspectors to send me an interesting problem they encountered in the field to share with our readers, and they did not disappoint.

We have #homeinspectionfinds from the foundation to the roof for your reading pleasure and edification.

Electricity Near the Pool

Do you know how far away and how high your electrical utility line is supposed to be from your pool? Watch this video and find out.

Carpenter Bees

Those big bumblers lurking around the eaves of your house are likely not bumble bees, but carpenter bees, and you’ll know for sure if you have those tell-tale holes in the wood.

Fire Hazard Still Hazardous

Here we can see evidence of a previous fire around a gas flue where there isn’t sufficient “clearance to combustibles.”

Building Code requires that there be a fire barrier in place and/or distance between appliances that produce heat like this, and flammable materials. There has clearly already been a fire incident, yet the problem hasn’t been fixed.

Foundation Crack

There are foundation cracks and then there are FOUNDATION CRACKS. The inspector’s comment was “This one comes with a nice lazy river through the patio.”

Sometimes it’s unclear whether cracks are due to foundation movement. This is not one of those times.
