Allen Traditional on Cul-De-Sac Shines With Updates

Sarah Nowak with Blackwood Homes (which is a construction company and a staging company and, well, they really kind of do it all) urged us to check out the home at 923 Cypress Drive last week.

Allen has become a real haven for families looking for a bit of a bargain, but with better proximity for work commutes. Good schools don’t hurt that mix, either — and this home is zoned for the great Reed Elementary School, Curtis Middle School, and Allen High.

And this home, built in 1972, has been thoroughly updated throughout its 1,684 square feet. The three-bedroom, two bath home is cute from the curb, too — but inside is where it really shines.

“I love the mix of traditional and modern elements in the finishes — particularly the gray arabesque kitchen backsplash and the touches of warm woods throughout,” Nowak said.

The home was a labor of love for the owners, who took a dated abode and embarked on a complete refresh, listing agent Hava Johnston of the Johnston Home Team with Texas Urban Living Realty said.

“The owners renovated the home from its original condition, damask wallpaper and all,” she said. “The transformation was difficult but worth it — they opened the kitchen up to the living room and created the breakfast bar.”

Johnston, like Nowak, has her favorite elements of the reboot as well.

“The patterned tile in the bathrooms and laundry room are my favorites,” she said. “I also love the lighting elements.”

But the backyard also holds some great appeal — with a covered patio, a yard large enough for a swing set, and a swimming pool just waiting for summer pool parties.
