Alger Park Midcentury Is Heavily Treed, Has Open Floorplan With Terrazzo, Wood Floors

9832-Mercer-Dr-AA brand-new listing caught my eye this week, an adorable Midcentury Modern in East Dallas’ Alger Park. The house at 9832 Mercer Dr. has lots of original details from its 1952 construction, like a stacked stone fireplace, Terrazzo floors, retro kitchen, and vintage tiled bathrooms.

With its open floorplan, two bedrooms, and 1.5 bathrooms, this home feels more spacious than its 1,544 square feet. A wall of windows along the back of the house looks out onto a heavily treed, landscaped backyard. A small covered patio and lots of grass provide great space for relaxation or entertaining.

There’s a broker open house tomorrow from 10 a.m. to noon for this house, listed last week by Cortney Bailey at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty for $259,000. Better move fast if you’re interested—properties in this great neighborhood move quickly!

9832-Mercer-Dr-A 9832-Mercer-Dr-AThis house certainly has curb appeal: The organic shapes of huge live oak trees contrast beautifully with the clean lines of the midcentury facade.

The Alger Park/Ash Creek neighborhood is fairly small, bounded by Peavy Road, Ash Creek, N. Buckner, and the railroad tracks that run in front of W.H. Gaston Middle School. It’s an upper middle-class area with lots of small families (two or three members), and the location has undeniable appeal. It’s only a few miles from White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum, and Lakewood shopping and dining options.

A pink stacked brick fireplace, hardwood floors, wood paneling on on wall, and a built-in bench are features of the living room. The next room over, a dining room, provides a cozy, bright space for meals.

9832-Mercer-Dr-A 9832-Mercer-Dr-A9832-Mercer-Dr-ABehind the living room is a sunken back room with Terrazzo floors and a wall of windows looking out onto the backyard. In North Texas, screened patios are useless many months of the year because of the heat, so a room like this provides a space that feels connected to the outdoors, but is usable year-round.

9832-Mercer-Dr-A 9832-Mercer-Dr-A 9832-Mercer-Dr-AThe Terrazzo floors extend into the kitchen, which feels vintage, but has new open shelving. This is not the best room in the house, with a slightly awkward layout and a stacked washer-dryer near the stove, but it’s got big potential—lots of space!

9832-Mercer-Dr-A 9832-Mercer-Dr-A 9832-Mercer-Dr-AThe bedrooms are big and bright, with hardwood floors and bigger-than-expected closets. I’ve only got a photo of one the main bathroom—there’s a half bathroom, too. Both have vintage tiles and look super cute.

This Alger Park Midcentury offers so much for well under $300K; my favorite parts are the landscaping, original stone fireplace, and the open rooms. There are only two other houses in the neighborhood on the market now, so if you’re interested, better act fast.
