Update 11/22: The ABPA home tour is December 5, 2014.

The Armstrong Bradfield Preschool Association puts on one of the best holiday home tours, and this year’s stroll through Highland Park will be a tremendous one! The Homes for the Holidays Home Tour is in just two weeks, and you can get your tickets for the Friday, Dec. 5 fundraiser for this active early childhood PTA right here. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the tour, which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Of course, you have to go to this year’s tour if you missed out on last year’s thanks to the insane ice storm that shut down North Texas. Don’t miss out!

In the lead-up to the home tour, we’re chatting with a few of the homeowners who have graciously opened their doors to all the folks who want to ogle and gawk at their beautiful abodes for a good cause. Today we have Rachel Stephens on the blog, whose home on McFarlin was teased by Candy just a short while ago. Rachel, who has always had a passion for design, enlightens us on what to look for when you tour her gorgeous traditional. Jump for more!

The foyer floor has classic geometric shapes painted on wood.

daltxrealestate.com: What is the first thing people notice when they enter your home?

Rachel: Our foyer floor – it’s a high-gloss painted wood floor. The pattern is designed with classic geometric shapes of white and deep purple hues.

CD:  Did you do anything in particular to get your home ready for the ABPA Homes For The Holidays Home Tour? Any renovations or updates? Any holiday décor?

Rachel: I’ve always loved decorating for the holidays, this just gave me an excuse to add a few more bells and whistles to our festive décor!

McFarlin-2
While much of Rachel’s home is open and airy, there are still cozy nooks where you can escape the buzz of everyday life.

CD: Tell us, what is your favorite room or space in your home? Why?

Rachel: The kitchen is truly the heart of our home. We love the crispness of the room. It’s open and airy and offers great sightlines with glimpses of the family room, foyer, dining room, sunroom and backyard.

CD: When it comes to entertaining, what rooms in your home are especially suited for guests?

Rachel: We love to entertain our friends, and our kiddos’ friends. The kitchen/sunroom space has been quite useful for playdates. It’s colorful and functional (all slipcovers!), yet still elegant to tie into the rest of the first floor.

CD: When people tour your home, what is something they should not miss?

Rachel: Any sports lover will love the custom three-television built-in cabinet tucked in the family room.

There you have it! Don’t miss Rachel’s beautiful home, as well as the three other gorgeous houses that will be on the ABPA Homes for the Holidays Home Tour!
