A Remodeled Midcentury Minutes From Denton’s Square

Up in Denton, there are houses, obviously. Lots of them. Plenty within walking distance to downtown Denton’s Square, too.

It’s common to see Craftsman-style homes and little bungalows from the 1940s and beyond. But one architectural style that’s not as common? The good ol’ midcentury. And yet, here it is in all its remodeled glory.

Even in a market that’s slowed, this home received multiple offers and issued a “best and final” by Sunday, Oct. 30. Yes, it’s gone now, but it’s still worth talking about.

Ebby Halliday’s Rachael Hill said she had 21 showings on the first day. If I were in the market to move, I would have 100 percent been one of them.

The upgrades in this house are exceptional. Hill said that’s real marble throughout with real gold flecks. She said it was opulent. As you walk through the home, the light hits the gold and gives you a little wink of a twinkle. The granite in the kitchen is freaking gorgeous, too.

Hill said the windows are commercial grade. They have metal in them that reflects the sunlight away so you don’t get sunburned as you linger need the wall of glass. (I also imagine that would help keep your rugs, floors, and furnishings from fading. Does any scientist want to weigh in?)

Hill said the house itself was constructed of breezeblocks and concrete so she’s solid as a rock. It is on E. University but set back and Hill said you can hear street noise, but not a chance you’re hearing it inside the home.

There’s an eight-foot privacy fence that surrounds the property and Hill said it feels like a little compound. Inside the fence, the owners added extensive landscaping, sod, and a Koi pond. There’s even a chicken coop. The HVAC has been replaced, new doors and windows, retaining walls were corrected, the kitchen and bathrooms completely redone, electrical and plumbing were addressed, spray foam was added, and a fresh coat of paint was put on.

All that plus nearby parks and schools the owners loved and a quick 15-minute walk to downtown.

As I said, the owners are sifting through offers as we speak, but Hill had 621 E. University Drive listed for $499,500.
