A Modern Colonial That Exceeds Every Expectation

Never judge a book by its cover. I was sure the façade of this modern Colonial would predict a comparably traditional interior. Boy, was I wrong.

While I do love a traditional home, I delight in the unexpected, and this house delivers that on multiple levels. When the present owners purchased this home, it was indeed a traditional beauty inside. But every owner puts their stamp on a home, as they should. Interior designer Debra Owens was brought in to give this modern Colonial a fresh, fun, and frankly, fabulous look.

Unexpected Details That Delight

It’s a lesson to us all that you can do something simple and create a significant impact. Sometimes it’s as straightforward as paint and wallpaper.

Wallpaper has been back in style for some time now, and in unexpected places, like on ceilings. This is not just a fun application, but it also creates a background for exciting light fixtures and changes how the light plays in the room.

That peacock green on the dining room fireplace and crown molding and a cool light fixture are just the right accents to create a bold new look in very little time. Notice the baseboards in the living and dining areas remain white. This stops the rooms from feeling enclosed. It’s so simple and yet so effective.

I checked out the previous listing photos, and the kitchen was quite beautiful, but the remodel took it to the next level. Tiling to the ceiling is smart because it creates a seamless visual, making the room appear even larger. White is not going anywhere, but you will note blues are growing increasingly popular as accent colors.

A wall was opened, from what I can discern, and the family room fireplace received quite a makeover. Lighting can make or break a room, and this chandelier is quite a statement piece.

All 9,235 square feet of this modern Colonial unfold in the most charming and unpredictable way. Whether it’s the clever use of color and interesting light fixtures or the fanciful Fornasetti Senza Tempo Acquario fish wallpaper in the mudroom, and the retro Marimekko poppy wallpaper in the laundry room, there is something delightful around every corner.

There are six bathrooms, seven bathrooms, two powder baths, five fireplaces, a temperature-controlled wine room, and wait until you see the principal closet!

Exterior space is as coveted as interior space today, and this modern Colonial delivers with over half an acre, a putting green, and a pool. (Remember you cannot get a pool built until next Spring!)
