Sunset where? Is that Southeast? Actually Sunset Heights is a Westside neighborhood bounded by Vickery Boulevard to the south and Hulen Street to the east.

Not as well known as nearby Arlington Heights or Ridglea, it also comes at discount. The median price for a home in Sunset Heights is about $100K lower than better known Arlington Heights. The neighborhood was developed in the 1950s and is full of avenues shaded by mature trees and a treasure trove for buyers on the hunt for Midcentury modern houses.

A Midcentury Modern Dream

At 3912 Eldridge Street you will find a beautifully remodeled and updated Midcentury Modern dream. Beautifully designed to parallel the graded slope on which it sits, the 1,540-square-foot, three-bedroom, one-and-one-half-bath residence abounds in curb appeal.

Reached by an appealing floating concrete walkway, the 1956 build has a peculiar but attractive cadet blue exterior with boxed planting beds filled with succulents. Blue and white tiled steps lead to the front door.

Inside, the open-concept plan gives a feeling of spaciousness. Era-appropriate blonde hardwood floors run throughout the house. Regrettably formatted photography, which almost made me scrap this story, makes it difficult to notice details such as the groovy, pendulum wood-burning stove, ceiling fan, and mod light fixture over the dining area.

The entire property has been renovated top to bottom including all new appliances and tankless gas water heater. The ’50s era fenestration is one of the house’s most winning features. A wall-to-wall picture window punctuates the middle of the kitchen.

The bed wall of the principle bedroom is an intricate geometrical relief with a long, lean clerestory window at the top.

Sixty-six years old never looked so good. The one full bath features a rich black-and-white scheme including a sleek granite counter with twin sinks and white tiled floor.

The backyard was also completely reworked with a brand new deck and sexy outdoor living and kitchen area. If you’re gaga for the decor, the seller is willing to bargain on the furniture!
