A Midcentury “Masterpiece” Just Hit The Market

Well, if this house doesn’t have a line around the block, it will soon. It’s one with a really special story and Keller Williams’ Steven Markel filled me in.

It’s not the first time he’s listed the jawdropper. It’s the second. The previous owner (before this one…oh, okay, that’s what previous means. Got it.) is the one that did all the updating. But it’s retro updating. She had a vision. She wanted to give the house a real period makeover and she nailed it.

She redid everything. New flooring, new windows, and yes that is cork flooring on the ceiling in one bedroom. In the primary bathroom there’s wood on the walls. Real planks of wood. And custom vanities in both. One that was created from a mid-century dresser.

In the kitchen, all of the cabinets are retro custom. The doors in every room? Same. So it’s a brand new MCM-style house. Here’s a not-surprise, the owner that did all this worked for a cabinet maker so bringing her vision to life was a little less of a strugg.

The little open-air atrium with the hot tub is a “real Zen space.” All those acrylic cutouts will remain. And all the unique features for that matter. Including the water feature in the backyard made of a trough and galvanized steel.

The breeze blocks on the front porch, the trellis on the mailbox, the wooden slates offering additional privacy from the atrium to the living room. It’s just all so incredible. There’s a sliding glass door that leads out to the atrium and makes the space feel really flowy. Yeah, that’s wright FLOWY.

If the new, “old” cabinets in the kitchen don’t get you, the retro hardware will. It’s detail on detail on detail. Markel called it a masterpiece and it really kind of is. It’s like an art house meets museum with a splash of time capsule. If you’d like to see more of 8719 Stanwood Drive there are photos a plenty right this way.

Markel listed the three-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,634 square foot home at $650,000.
