A Little Green Thing Going On in the Bathroom

I don’t know why, but these pea-green bathrooms straight from the 1950’s fascinate me. Our very first home in Dallas (on Ainsworth, northwest Dallas) has this same green tile mudded in. I love that the owners of this house took that green to the max, painting the cabinets an even darker shade of green with the closet door to match. Oh yes, the walls: green too!

So here you have it, a St. Paddy’s Day green loo, all for you!

This home is somewhat of a deal, too, especially if you love Midcentury Modern…7837-Northaven-green-bath-1024x681

Wait, no that is not the home. But that is what it COULD be with a little effort.

Here is 7837 Northaven as it exists today:

Located on Northaven Road in Hill Haven Heights, the home is one house over from the very end of Northaven as it meanders towards Central. This is the portion of Northaven that is covered with an arched canopy of trees. Traffic is controlled by speed bumps. Northaven Gardens and the Dallas JCC are across the street, so gardening will be a cinch — bet they don’t even charge to deliver!

The home at 7837 Northaven is on a .39 acre lot, a 1958 circa built Midcentury Modern begging for either a scraping or redo. I would opt for the latter. There are a little over 1700 square feet, three bedrooms and two baths — both charming as all get-out. The area is deed-restricted to single family homes, but with that third acre, you have plenty of room to spread out: take her to the studs and foundation, take over the two-car garage, add a new garage and laundry room, bingo. Pier and beam, baby, and original hardwoods.

The location is beyond convenient, too: in fact, I think it’s one of the best. You can walk to Cindy’s Deli on Sundays (you know how bad parking usually is) or The Casket Store. Preston Hollow Village is a straight shot down Central, Preston Royal is just west, as is Preston Forest. The Cooper Aerobics Center is also not too far, and I don’t have to tell you how close and direct NorthPark is … plus the shops at Park Lane.

Health fanatics will love going for a run on your very own Northaven Trail (or taking the kids/grandkids on a bike) or biking to White Rock Lake using the adjacent White Rock Creek North Trail access.

Listed with Chris Garcia of JP & Associates, and priced at $529,000, this midcentury angel was put on the market in January.

I kind of like this one, would be a really fun project: the agent has wisely given us that rendering of what it could be with just a little love and about $300,000 …
