A Golden Opportunity for Maintenance-Free, Easy Living in Glen Lakes

Welcome to another version of our Post-COVID Miracle House. Today we tell you how you can live securely behind gates, but not have a gated feel. You can have access to a smattering of recreation — walking trails, pools, tennis courts — and be out of your garage north, south, east, or west to anywhere in Dallas in 20 minutes.

This kind of perfection happens only in planned communities, and Glen Lakes is one of the best in Dallas. A little under the radar, it was developed in the late 1970s on a beautiful golf course, one of the last parcels of land in the LBJ/North Central loop. Glen Lakes runs east of Boedecker Road, south of Walnut Hill Lane. The homes were built as zero-lot-line homes but as luxurious monsters with generous courtyards and designed for privacy and security. Many have been through their second or third remodeling, all done with dedicated attention to quality and detail.

Only The Best in Glen Lakes

Nabil Sahliyeh bought his Glen Lakes home in 1979 and was one of the first residents. He still lives there. Nabil says Glen Lakes was developed by Vernon and James Smith, who bought the golf course then built the first house. Quality control was rigorous — only top-name builders of the time in Dallas were approved to construct, including Todd & Hughes and Pierce.

This beauty at 15 Glenmeadow Court is a study in peaceful traditional living. In fact, this home could very well be the cover of the late, great magazine of that name. Meredith Corp. altered the structure and publication of Traditional Home Magazine last year, which was sad: the publication had 850,000 subscribers and a reversion to traditional design is emerging. While 15 Glenmeadow Court was built in 1985, the home was gutted and updated in 2017 with a crisp white painted exterior, verdant landscaping, and the insides of a woman more than half her age.

Starting in the foyer, you can see how the 5,368-square-foot home was architecturally crafted to be an entertainer’s paradise. The gracious entry opens to the generous living areas. The foyer has parquet floors. The dining room boasts authentic Gracie wallpaper and is large enough to serve a sit- down meal for at least 20.

The library is paneled and truly bears shelves. The kitchen is white and bright, having been completely remodeled from new cabinets to countertops and top appliances. Heart of my heart: there are two dishwashers!

There is a wet bar, wine fridge, and side yard. The master bedroom suite is on the first floor with a fireplace, sitting room, and an amazing bath complete with heated radiant floors, dual vanities, and his/her separate closets.

Up the beautiful front staircase is the second floor with two bedroom suites, a den with a fireplace, and another wet bar. Should you need additional space, there is a bonus room up the back staircase, over the garage, perfect for luggage, crafting or an in-home gym studio.

And as for storage, this house would not even know a closet if it wasn’t walk in and huge.

The home rests on just .15 of an acre, which is about as much room as you want with zero-lot-line living. But with the terrific, expansive views of Glen Lake’s greenbelt, there is an allusion of being on a much larger property — that has always been one of the best selling points for Glen Lakes,

And yes, there are lakes — two in fact, with fountains. HOA dues run about $580 a month and cover security, two swimming pools, the dog park, and two miles of walking track.

Listed with Annalee Aston of Compass, the home is priced at $1.625 million.
