There’s Something Irresistible About This Dashing Dilbeck in Kessler Park

Normally our High Caliber Home of the Week is a sleek, modern design, but there’s something absolutely irresistible about this Kessler Park home designed by the great Charles Dilbeck that we absolutely had to feature it.
The woodwork, the masonry, the gorgeous fireplaces and unique spaces, winding paths and romantic bedrooms — all of these things come together to make this home a truly high-caliber listing. Of course, this home is already pending, but when you’re in love with a home like this one and you don’t want to take any chances with financing, call Lisa Peters with Caliber Home Loans to make the pre-approval process a snap.

This is probably my second favorite Dilbeck ever. My first is Debbie Wiggins’ amazing Dilbeck on Avalon that was featured in last year’s Lakewood Home Festival. What’s really interesting is how, on the outside, these two homes look so different. Inside, though, they are cut from the same cloth.

The original  beamed ceilings in the formal living and dining rooms, as well as the brick floor and imposing fireplace give you that trademark Dilbeck ambiance. Of course, the library behind the formal living room is cozy and perfect, but it was originally a screened in porch, notes listing agent Becky Frey.
This property at 1125 Canterbury Court looks modest from the outside, but is actually quite sizable with four bedrooms, three full and one half bath, a guest cottage, and more than 2,800 square feet. It was snapped up off the market at a listing price of $799k.
The kitchen features fresh paint and commercial grade stainless steel appliances, including a Viking range and a SubZero refrigerator. You’ll fall in love with the beautiful tile backsplashes and skirted sink, as well as the adorable breakfast nook with a barrel ceiling. I love the contrasting hinges and hardware, as well as the pine cabinetry. There’s a built-in wine refrigerator to boot!

But the home’s true romance is in the master bedroom, originally the garage and converted to meld seamlessly with the rest of the house, right down to the pecky cypress ceilings, exposed beams, and gorgeous windows. The master bath is a perfect foil for the bedroom, with Carrerra marle counters, original cabinetry, and Italian glass tile in the shower.

Upstairs you’ll find two guest bedrooms that share a bath and the original master suite, complete with sleeping porch. These rooms feature cedar closets and beautiful views of the property.

“The guest quarters, also known as Canterbury Cabin, serves as a functional, separate living quarters with a living room, kitchenette, bedroom and bath,” Frey notes. “The quarters has served as both living quarters and work studios.”
Of course, you’ll fall in love with the gardens, too. There’s an immense wood-burning fireplace crafted with limestone, as well as a pond and a winding pathway. There’s also a staircase that leads to the basement just outside the home.
