The Fairmount Festivus Holiday Lights Tour will kick off Dec. 10. (Fairmount Neighborhood)

Next in a series: Dallas-Fort Worth neighborhoods celebrate the holidays with light displays like no other. We’re presenting neighborhoods individually this year, so let us know if you know of a neighborhood that needs to be showcased. Nominate a neighborhood in an email. Here’s the series so far.

Neighborhood: Fairmount Festivus’ Holiday Lights Tour, Fort Worth | Poster

Where: Enter on the lot on the Hemphill Street side for parking and food truck access. Enter on the Lipscomb Street side for a drive-through map and ticket pickup. | Check the map.

When: Dec. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Donations accepted: Suggested donation $10 for cars, $20-$30 for vans/buses. Raffle tickets for sponsor trees with swag $2 each, eight for $10, or 25 for $20. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for donation to One Safe Place and receive three raffle tickets.

What Makes It Unique: In 2014, the Fairmount National Historic District, particularly residents Brandon Garrett and his wife Christa, decided to add Festivus to the community’s holiday celebration. The Seinfeld-inspired faux holiday is celebrated around an undecorated aluminum pole where family and friends can air their grievances. The 1990s TV sitcom introduced the holiday, which has become an annual pop-culture fixture on Dec. 23. Some locations on the tour will have live performances.

The Fairmont Historic District was developed between 1890 to 1938. The neighborhood contains one of the nation’s richest collections of turn-of-the-century housing.

The event is in collaboration with One Safe Place, a nonprofit crime prevention agency committed to reducing crime, especially domestic violence in Tarrant County. For a small donation, which can be monetary or a new unwrapped toy for One Safe Place, visitors will receive a map to additional special displays and activities throughout the neighborhood.

What You Can See: At One Safe Place, guests can meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus, grab a snack at participating food vendors, and try their luck at winning a sponsored Christmas tree. Neighbors and businesses here in this Fort Worth neighborhood go all out for Festivus, putting on elaborate displays, shows, and interactive experiences.

“The event would not be possible without our committed volunteers, supportive neighbors, and participating businesses,” said Kelci Cox, director of promotions for the Fairmount Neighborhood Association.

SOCIAL: Social media users are encouraged to use the hashtag #FairmountFestivus to follow and/or post about event happenings.
