Richardson ISD is building its first-ever middle school on Walnut Hill Lane, and we found a few superb homes where a walk-in closet and backyard oasis are icing on the cake in a high-ranked educational market.

Addison-based Cadence McShane Construction broke ground this month on a 231,000-square-foot Lake Highlands Middle School campus that will accommodate 1,500 students.

Designed by Perkins & Will, the campus includes 200 parking spaces, a food-service area and cafeteria, two competition gyms, a weight room, a track and practice field, tennis courts, bleachers, and spaces designated for band, choir, and theater.

The three-story, $81 million campus was approved by Richardson ISD trustees in April. It will be the first-ever sixth- through eighth-grade school in RISD, set to open in 2024.

The Texas Education Agency recently gave Richardson ISD a B rating.

Take a Gander

We can’t properly publish a story on a Lake Highlands school without inviting readers to take a gander at the upcoming Goose development down the lane at 9601 White Rock Trail.

Austin-based StoryBuilt is constructing 36 green homes ranging from 2,200 to 2,800 square feet in the mid-$700,000s price range.

“We’ve chosen elegant traditional architecture surrounding a lush garden and community amenities,” said StoryBuilt sales consultant Patricia Laurora. “Located off Walnut Hill Lane, adjacent to the Lake Highlands Town Center and White Rock Creek, Goose will offer the perfect urban haven for an active lifestyle.”

Monthly construction updates show that contractors are working on building streets, and the development is “getting close to horizontal.”

The Enclave at Vanguard Way

Taylor Morrison Homes is also building in the Lake Highlands area. Listings at The Enclave at Vanguard Way are scheduled to open for new owners in early 2023.

A $1.6 million home at 9410 Rockmount Drive features five bedrooms across 4,627 square feet. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom and walk-in closet.

A three-car garage, media room, study, and gourmet kitchen are highlighted in the listing. Other floor plans are available with move-in dates as early as January.

Can You Tell Me How to Get …?

The home at 11104 Sesame St. is worth looking into just for the address. The $1.3 million abode zoned for the Lake Highlands school district was built in 1979 and has four bedrooms and five baths.

It was recently renovated by luxury developers to include marble tile, white oak cabinetry, and a chef’s kitchen with top-tier appliances.

Realtor Annie Stiles of Monument Realty has the listing.
