Today’s little treasure is a stone Tudor cottage over in Beckley Club Estates. Compass’ Bill Farrell has the listing and he makes my job easy. All I have to do is suit up and show up and he basically does all the writing for me. Like “treasure.” That was his.

Farrell called it a wide swath — how great is that? – and they all have one thing in common: an appreciation for gently rolling hills, winding creeks, and the overall charm of this little tucked away neighborhood.
Back in 2004, the current owner moved in. That was so long ago that Beckley Clube Estate wasn’t quite the Beckley Club Estates we know now. So he was a true urban pioneer. The home had been remodeled including … well, everything. It was extensive. Sheetrock replaced, the fireplace restored, the ceilings and fixtures — all of it got an update.
The bathroom is covered in slate, which is a little bit of a heavier look, but if you wanted to modern up the space, a quick tile swap would make all the difference. Oh, and the existing hardwoods were lovingly restored, too. As much as they can tell, this home was built in the 1930s.
Farrell said that homes of this era have a more modest footprint and sometimes fewer rooms, but the rooms are BIG. Including the two at 1406 Ramsey Avenue. We chatted about why that was, and Farrell said he suspects it’s because closets were smaller back then so more of the square footage was in the actual rooms. That coupled with the higher ceilings and it’s easy to see why this one feels so large.
It has a huge backyard, too, and it backs up to a neighboring house with an even bigger lot. A lot so big, the home only occupies about a quarter of it and the rest is a forest of trees. That’s what you back up! So there’s really no need to add a privacy fence because one is basically built right in.
Heavy sigh. The Tudor of Tudors listed at $325,000 is already under contract. No joke though, if you like this style watch Farrell like a hawk. He knows where to find them and tends to bring them to market.
