Texas has the third-highest number of billionaires in the United States, behind New York and California of course, and more than our fair share of millionaires live in North Texas. While Westlake and Southlake are known as cities with some of the highest average incomes among us, the Collin County cities of Plano, Frisco, and McKinney have been long known for their impressive estates on prime (often golf course) real estate.

For this Suburb Sunday, we took a look at the most expensive active listings on MLS within Collin County right now. And before you start turning a shade of envious green, remember their estimated property taxes could feed a small village. Look and enjoy, and be thankful you don’t have the house payment.

Chateau Lumier

Address: 1201 Gray Branch Road, McKinney

  • 8 bedrooms, 9.5+ baths
  • 14,665 square feet
  • 15.8 acres
  • $9.995 million
  • Listed by Debra Brown of Compass RE Texas

Chateau Lumier is an impressive 15.8-acre estate in McKinney, listed by Debra Brown of Compass RE Texas. “Enter the heavily treed world of beautiful Chateau Lumier through 22-foot wide gates over a quaint former country bridge, and arrive at the circular drive and picturesque fountain,” Brown writes in the listing. Couldn’t have said it any better myself. This French- and Southern-inspired estate was built in 2011 by Sharif & Munir Custom Homes with interior design by vice president of Dallas Design Group, Tracy Rasor, our intrepid Karen Eubank reported earlier this year.

Rasor spent three years on the home, hunting down everything from the fixtures to the floor and the result is a treasure trove of design and detail with provenance. Rasor tracked down an antique altarpiece carving that she built into the front of the kitchen bar. The dining room chandelier came from a historic government building in Mississippi. Plus, there are personally significant touches too, like the small house that juts out from the wall of one of the children’s bedrooms.

Chateau Montclair

Address: 1400 Copper Point Drive, Prosper

  • 9 bedrooms, 10.5 baths
  • 29,122 square feet
  • 5.95 acres
  • $7.5 million
  • Listed by David Gloria of Ebby Halliday Allen/Fairview/Lucas

Deion Sanders’ palatial home in Prosper went back on the market again a week ago, listed by David Gloria of Ebby Halliday Allen/Fairview/Lucas. Once upon a time, the 1999-built home that put Prosper on the map of luxury real estate could be seen like a beacon on Preston Road, but now that a 2014 investor turned some of its acreage into development, the home is nestled among a new luxury gated community called The Montclair with homes in the low millions.

Because it’s Primetime we’re talking about, you’ve no doubt heard about the two-lane bowling alley, full indoor basketball court, yoga room, and personal barbershop. Even the jaws at Architectural Digest dropped when they wrote about it in April 2016.

Details like the 40-foot ceilings, great room with a two-story-tall mirror, and a two-story, 3,000-square-foot closet are truly awe-worthy. Yes, in case you forgot the former Dallas Cowboys is a clotheshorse, his closet is larger than my house. The home is being sold as is.

Starling Drive Spectacular

Address: 4012 Starling Drive, Frisco

  • 5 bedrooms, 5.5+ bath
  • 9,865 square feet
  • 0.99 acre
  • $6.9 million
  • Listed by Jeff Reinhard of Reinhard Real Estate

Interestingly, this 9,865-square-foot home that went on the market in October was not built to one owner’s specific tastes, but instead as a spec home in 2017 by Philip Carter of Christian Custom Homes. “I saw a demand that was not being met in a Frisco custom luxury spec home,” Carter told Karen Eubank when it was being built. “That blend of California indoor-outdoor living with a modern Texas Hill Country design was not being built here.”

Carter teamed with Karyn Dismore Interiors for this gorgeous Hollywood Hills-inspired contemporary perched atop the highest elevated lot in Frisco. California: accomplished. The three-tier backyard has an outdoor air conditioning unit that keeps the 1,500-square-foot poolside lounge area cool with a two-level negative edge pool that drops 10 feet to the pool below.

The impressive home was featured on Designing Texas with Jocelyn White and other pubs for good reason.
