Staff Meeting Event at 6626 Talmadge Lane: Yes!! Size Matters!

Food and drink anchored some, but many took a to-go plate to explore the home.

Last night Talmadge Lane was hopping with attendees to our third Staff Meeting event. As advice columnist Dan Savage says, “it gets better.” Certainly the assembled, several of whom may still be lost within this impressively large 14-thousand square foot home, enjoyed spending time to revel in this home’s uniqueness.

I know as I toured the home with several guests, the most common words were “Ooo and Ahhh.” Beyond the scale of the home, the ah-ha details impressed – some of which I pointed out in the original posting – like the “secret” wine room behind a secret door within the classical dining room. Or perhaps the heated from below “hot plate” buffet top that keeps dinner toasty warm.

I was able to have a nice chat with the home’s builder Mark Molthan and I’ll be publishing that as an interview in the coming days. Some very interesting perspectives on what’s hot and what clients want in his chic new builds … one of which I walked by earlier in the day on Park Lane.

In the previous post, I spoke about the energy efficiency secret of geothermal HVAC which really cuts electrical bills for the home. I can also tell you this family is serious about water conservation. Most homeowners are a little squeamish about urinals, but ya know what? Get over it. This home has four scattered between ten full and two half baths … and these Toto models flush 1/8th of a gallon … 2 cups. The average toilet uses between 0.9 and 1.6 gallons of water per flush. Unless you’re outfitting a sorority in an all-girls school, all hail the urinal.

(Literally) in between the dining room and the urinals must be a glass of wine. And here we see www.daltxrealestate.com “editrix” Jo England and fellow writer Karen Eubank. I wasn’t close enough to overhear if they were evaluating the wine or the hunky server from delish Two Sisters Catering.

Not to worry, Karen Eubank isn’t camera shy. She posed for a shot with myself and Sharon Quist from Dave Perry Miller.

And, as I’m telling tales and secrets, recall that there’s a private fourth-floor deck that overlooks downtown and the other high-rises lining Central Expressway to the east. Those of us who hung around until dark jumped into the elevator for a breathtaking view (that I didn’t photograph supper-duper well).

Ohhhh…and I have to tell you a appetite-whetting secret. For those who stayed to the very end, the school rhyme “I see England, I see France” was uttered by a few who were accidentally trapped briefly in the attic … and you’ll get no more out of me! LOL

Finally, we want to thank the owners of this amazing 1.17 acre estate at 6626 Talmadge Lane and Tim Schutze of Allie Beth Allman for inviting us up for a look around.

Stay tuned for our next Staff Meeting event … in January.
