Dubbed the “White House of Dallas,” 10777 Strait Lane is an iconic estate in Preston Hollow. Diane and Becky Gruber of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate just sold the 3.3-acre property that was listed for $10.9 million.

Update 5/15: We’ve Been Silenced!

Update 7pm: Selling price was $_____ or $______ per square foot!

Huge news for the Dallas luxury real estate market! The “White House of Dallas” has long been one of our luxury listings to watch. Listed by Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate’s Diane and Becky Gruber, this 16,041-square foot estate on 3.3 acres now has a new owner. The Grubers listed 10777 Strait Lane for $10.9 million

“We put the house on the market last summer and had quite a bit of interest,” says Becky Gruber. “The buyer saw it online and flew into town to see it in February. It went under contract shortly thereafter.”

The home has quite the lineage, as we’ve spilled before. Here’s what Candy had to say about the home back in 2014:

This elegant, totally gated estate is sited on 3.3 beautifully landscaped acres that have been exquisitely manicured by that landscape genius Harold Leidner. This is one of Harold’s crowning landscape glories! It is at the southwest corner of Strait Lane and Royal. If you are a veteran of the area, you may recall the home was not always this gracious and a near White House replica, though it was the previous owners who named it such. It was, in fact, a bit of a head-scratcher because the original house was red brick!

In 2001, the Oats, who bought the home from Charles and Jane Hanson on January 24, 2001, embarked on so much renovation the home was practically rebuilt. For three years we all saw the construction. From the limestone finish stucco exterior to the reworking of the interior floorplan, which includes antique fireplaces imported from France, absolutely no expense was spared in design or building prowess.

At the time, the home was priced at more than $19 million — almost twice the price at which Diane and Becky Gruber listed the four-bedroom, five-full-and-four-half-bath estate. As we mentioned before in our Strait Lane roundup, the home had quite the renovation.

The gated 10777 Strait Ln. exudes elegance and Old World style. With details like 14-foot ceilings, a climate-controlled wine cellar and tasting area, and 18th-century marble and limestone fireplace mantels, it earns its place as one of the most stately and dignified estates in the city. It has four bedrooms, five full bathrooms, four half baths, five living areas, two dining areas, and 16,041 square feet on two stories, built in 1996.

This custom home begins with a double height grand foyer with French limestone floors and a graceful curving staircase. Living areas are well proportioned and handsome with features like a coffered ceiling or rich hardwoods in a French-style chevron pattern. The kitchen is a dream, with double ovens, dual dishwashers, walk-in pantry, high-end appliances, granite countertops, oversized island, and a full catering kitchen plus a walk-in refrigerator. Nearby is a custom bar room with walnut walls and a burled walnut ceiling. A home theater offers seating for 24, top-of-the-line Paul Labute equipment, and a full bar.  The 3.3 acres include a lovely swimming pool, koi pond, formal garden, tennis court, two outdoor loggias, numerous outdoor pavilions, and over 200 mature trees.

“[The buyers] were impressed with the exceptional quality and detail of the home,” says Diane Gruber. “All of the architectural elements, the furnishings, everything. Our sellers were thrilled to have a buyer that loved and appreciated the home as much as they did.”

The Grubers say that the interest and sale of this iconic Strait Lane estate is a testament to the health of the Dallas luxury real estate market.

“This sale should signal to everyone that the Dallas market continues to do well,” says Becky. “There are currently three other properties in MLS listed for over $10 million in Preston Hollow and the Park Cities that are under contract. Two of them went under this month.”

Of course, selling a multimillion-dollar estate isn’t like the bread-and-butter of our region — the $600K and below market.

“Homes in the $10 million-plus range perform differently,” continues Diane, “so seeing these large sales happen, along with so many companies continuing to relocate here, indicates to us that Dallas remains an economic powerhouse people feel comfortable investing in.”
