Every week, the detail-oriented folks at Green Scene Home Inspections will give Daltxrealestate.com readers an education in inspection. Want to see what they see? Tune in for “Upon Closer Inspection.”

As home inspectors, we want to inspect every home as if our own mother were moving in. Some homes need some work before we’d let our moms move in, and some…well, we’d like to tell you, but our moms taught us that if we don’t have anything nice to say, to not say anything at all.

With Mother’s Day around the corner, we’re sharing a few things that our moms would HATE so that you can hopefully do better.

A Dirty Bathtub

Somebody’s mom didn’t teach them not to wash their dirty tools in the bathtub and then leave the filthy water standing in the tub.

A Termite Infestation

Nobody wants their mom to live in a house that is slowly being eaten by termites (shiver). This house had an active swarm in the garage and this evidence of a previous infestation in the crawl space. Make sure mom has regular pest control service, y’all!

Birds!

It’s probably a red flag if you enter a house and there are creatures flying around the living room. Just saying.

A Big Mess

Your mom would be ASHAMED of the lack of organization. If she told you once, she told you a thousand times to clean up your room before you show your house to sell.
