Transitional Transformation in Lake Highlands’ White Rock North

In Lake Highlands, where houses were built as early as the 1950s, it’s not uncommon for a home to be sold and either completely torn down and replaced by a new, more modern one or completely renovated.

So when a home such as 9507 Covemeadow Drive went through an all-encompassing renovation, down to the studs, curiosity hit and I immediately searched its MLS history. Let me tell you, 9507 Covemeadow Drive looks nothing like its former self — in a good way.

To begin, the curb appeal has greatly benefited from a fresh coat of white paint and fresh sod and landscaping. The exterior facade also received a rejuvenating facelift starting with the removal of dated dormer windows and all-new, gridless picture windows have replaced traditional paned windows. The front patio also appears more open and inviting with the removal of wooden posts and the extended front steps.

As you enter through the teal Craftsman-style door, white oak floors extend throughout the house and the entryway is illuminated by a modern drum light fixture. To the right of the entryway, the sun-filled front room, with gridless French doors, serves as a private office.

Certain design features, common in homes being built today, weren’t “a thing” when the home was originally built. But when the walls are taken down to the studs, the home’s layout, and functional space can be significantly reimaged — which is why this 1963 home now has an open-concept kitchen, dining, and two living areas.

The spacious kitchen is anchored by an oversized center island, painted the most serene shade of green, and includes a farmhouse apron sink, a built-in microwave, and a breakfast bar large enough to seat four. Other kitchen highlights include a breakfast nook, double ovens, a drop-in gas cooktop, and a walk-in pantry.

The kitchen overlooks a living area featuring a wood-burning fireplace, a skylight, and direct access to the backyard, deck, and custom playscape. To the right of the kitchen, there is a second, even cozier living area with access to the mudroom and the 2-car garage.

The owner’s suite is conveniently located on the main level and features a spa-like bath with a separate shower and soaking tub, dual vanity, plenty of storage space, and the first of two laundry rooms.

The second level features built-in bookcases, four additional bedrooms, and a flex space that can be used as a media/game room or fitness room. But the real bonus room is the second laundry room, also located on the second floor — if you know, you know.

Even as the neighborhood transforms from traditional-style homes to transitional and modern homes, the reasons for Lake Highland’s and White Rock North’s popularity remain intact. Only a 15-minute drive to Dallas, residents of this close-knit suburban community enjoy rolling hills and tree-lined streets, access to acclaimed Richardson ISD schools, and proximity to big-city amenities. It’s nice to know, some things never change.

The home at 9507 Covemeadow Drive is listed by the WrightHouse Group’s Jamie Sheehan with Ebby Halliday Realtors for $1,549,000. For more information or to schedule a private showing, contact Jamie at 214-435-4152, [email protected].
