What’s better than one stunning High Caliber Home in North Dallas? How about five? This week we feature five gorgeous North Dallas homes that are all featured in an agent tour today! The tour, dubbed “North Dallas Reimagined,” shows off just what’s possible with the incredible stock of midcentury ranch and 1970s soft contemporary architecture available.
Stops include three 1970s contemporaries and two redone ranches. However, while all five homes have received some level of restoration or renovation, none compares to the completely transformed ranch at 5409 Preston Haven represented by Galaxy Modern founder Janelle Alcantara. Of course, we had to know more about Janelle Alcantara’s listing at 5409 Preston Haven. The home, which started as a typical 1960s ranch, is situated in a hidden neighborhood off of Inwood Road, says the Galaxy Modern founder. “The family that owned it created a lifetime of memories there. The children that grew up in the house are now adults and they knew that the likely fate of their childhood home was a wrecking ball,” Alcantara said.
Then, they heard about Alcantara and her company Galaxy Modern.
It’s hard to imagine that this stunning modern home started as that very lived-in 1960s ranch, but it’s definitely the same address, and these shots from when the framing was going on give you a clue as to how much is original in this completely gorgeous rebuild.
This project, in many ways, speaks to Alcantara’s goals with her Galaxy Modern brand, which is dedicated to bringing modern and contemporary architecture to the public and in the close-in neighborhoods where people want to live. Alcantara purchases older homes that are in disrepair, and depending on the condition, either demolishes the structure or completely rebuilds it into something new altogether.
“Preston Haven was just that,” Alcantara said. “The footprint of the home had a lot going for it and it was sitting on a large lot of 1/3 of an acre. The lot was the perfect size to accommodate a large, spacious home and still provide for a large backyard. The front elevation was perfect for transforming into a striking and bold contemporary.”
Alcantara brought in architect Matt Dimitri Karpenko to completely redesign the house. “His brilliant vision for the house required that it be carefully de-constructed in a manner that would allow it to be reconfigured,” Alcantara explained. “All of the plumbing was removed and replaced with new, as was the wiring. The new house has a completely innovative floor plan.”
The home now sports a robust two-story floor plan with an open living and kitchen area, as well as an amazing master suite on the first floor. There’s tons of huge glass windows affording plenty of natural light, and the kitchen features not only a large and open cooking area, but a well-appointed catering/butler’s pantry area, too.
The home easily has everything … well, bring your own pool design or hire Harold Leidner Landscape Architects for that. The outdoor shower to hose off in is already there. What else could you possibly want?
“Everyone that’s been inside is largely impressed,” Alcantara said. “I’ve heard that ‘it’s the best house in the neighborhood’ that it’s ‘unbelievable how well it functions,’ and others have said that they have never seen a floor plan that accommodates every phase of a family’s life as well as this one.”
But she says that the most meaningful compliments came from one of the women that grew up in the house.
“‘Mom and Dad would have loved to see what was done with their house.’ She said that while it looking completely different from its original form, that she could still sense the happy and cheerful spirit of the home as she knew it,” Alcantara said. “I can feel it, too, everytime I go inside. The house feels like a happy place, where you just want to be because wonderful things are happening.”
