  • GREENLAND HILLS TUDOR BUILT IN 1926

OH1129LEADEvery Thursday, we bring you our pick of the hottest North Texas properties in our Daltxrealestate.com Open Houses of the Week. These are the places you don’t want to miss that weekend. And this week, our homes all have one Dallas ISD feeder pattern in common — the Woodrow Wilson High School feeder pattern.

If you’ve never checked out Woodrow Wilson High, you owe it to yourself to investigate, because from academics (it’s an International Baccalaureate school, and routinely gets multiple distinctions from the Texas Education Agency) to fine arts (its band has been featured on the Today show) to athletics, there’s a reason it’s one of the most sought-after of public high schools.

And if you think that’s hyperbole, just wait until a few parents and alumni find this story and take to the comments or Facebook. They’re fiercely proud of this school, and with good reason.

So let’s take a look at the three homes (two zoned for Mockingbird Elementary, another zoned for Geneva Heights) we’ve chosen this week.

GREENLAND HILLS TUDOR BUILT IN 1926

OH1129A1Open House: Sunday, Dec. 2, 3 to 5 p.m.

This 1926 Tudor in the Greenland Hills area of the M Streets is a perfect three-bedroom, two-baths, 1,968 square-feet of abode, perched in a walkable neighborhood close to dining and fun on Greenville Avenue.

The gorgeous home at 5542 Vanderbilt Ave. is listed by Sam Sawyer with Compass, and boasts gorgeous hardwood floors, nine-foot ceilings, three spacious bedrooms, and a study off the master suite.

The kitchen has been upgraded with stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and a wine fridge. The bathrooms have also gotten an update, and if you have furbabies or the two-legged variety, the beautifully landscaped backyard has a deck and privacy fence that provides plenty of play space.

The home is listed for $629,000, and is zoned for Mockingbird Elementary.

MODERN TRADITIONAL ON LLANO

OH1129A1Open House: Sunday, Dec. 2, 1 to 3 p.m.

If you need slightly more room, this three-bedroom, three-full bath (and one half-bath) home at 6046 Llano Ave. may just fit the bill. At 2,746 square feet of space, the home is ready for a family, especially when you factor in its zoned for Geneva Heights Elementary and is steps from Tietze Park.

Each bedroom has its own full bath, meaning that there won’t be any fights over shower time in the mornings. A great layout provides plenty of space for entertaining, with two living spaces, a covered patio, a private pool and spa.

The formal living room is a masterpiece with refinished wood flooring, 10-foot ceilings, a wood-burning fireplace, and built-in bookshelves. The kitchen has new flooring, a gorgeous new backsplash, and stainless steel appliances.

Both the master bedroom and a second bedroom upstairs have updated carpet, and both open to a covered porch with views of Tietze Park. The downstairs bedroom could easily double as a second master suite.

The home is priced at $725,000, and is listed by Peter Loudis with Ebby Halliday — Lakewood/Lake Highlands.

ROOMY TUDOR ON COVETED MERRIMAC AVENUE

OH1129A1Open House: Sunday, Dec. 2, 2 to 4 p.m.

While this beautiful Tudor may have been built in 1926, recent updates make it feel anything but geriatric, listing agent Laurie Welch with Allie Beth Allman & Associates said of this home at 5510 Merrimac Ave.

“This gem features a 2016 renovated kitchen that boasts of Calacatta quartz countertops, a Carrara marble backsplash, custom cabinets with glass front doors, and a Kohler farmhouse sink,” she said, adding that the stainless steel appliances are Thermador and the fridge is Sub-Zero.

A re-tooled mudroom provides plenty of space to shuck grubby footwear and coats, but is still stylish with its French door, cement tiles, and oversized cabinets.

Inside the four-bedroom, two-bath, 2,555-square-foot house boasts interiors that combine white beadboard ceilings with bricked and arched windows and doorways that are, as Welch said, a “grand mix of transitional colors and old world designs.”

The home is zoned for Mockingbird Elementary, and is listed for $759,900.
