Homeowner Adie Buchanan has flair for painting rooms in fantastic colors. In her last home, the local HR manager converted an entire bedroom into a dream closet with hot pink-painted walls and a chandelier.
“I love bright colors, but in a smaller space,” she says. “It makes it a fun space that can be easily changed.”
Easier to neutralize than her grandmother’s house, where every room was painted a different color. “I got some of her Phyllis Diller gene,” she jokes.
So if you walk into the 1961-built White Rock Forest home she’s selling now, you won’t find bright or bold accent walls. Just subtle warm gray walls and simple design in this four-bedroom, three and half-bath home with 3,200-square feet.
Until you get to the laundry room. Buchanan knocked out the hot water heater closet and gave most people’s least favorite room in the house quite the makeover. In hot orange and navy.
“Actually I love navy and gold, but that’s trendy,” Buchanan says.
She used the plumbing from the laundry room to add a new ensuite master bath upstairs with wet room that encloses the vessel tub in the walk-in shower.
She put her artistic touch on other aspects of the home, including redoing the floors, replacing windows including that beautiful deep window stool in the dining room, and replacing track lighting with new and additional can lights.
The home also has new spray foam insulation, smart home upgrades including Nest, Ring & Schlage, new HVAC & ductwork, and new wiring.
The garage had already been converted to a family room years ago before she moved in, so Buchanan just improved the space with a wall of cabinets and wine cooler.
The nice thing is that this one-third acre lot has two separate backyards, perfect for kids of the two- or four-legged kind. From the gated deck just outside the family room, you can step down to the sparkling pool that’s deep enough for diving. The other backyard located just off the kitchen and living area has a patio perfect for grilling, a storage building with electrical, and a large grass yard.
White Rock Forest is a gem of a neighborhood of homes with deep setbacks, large yards, and East Dallas sense of community. It’s near Casa Linda shopping and outdoor beauty of White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum.
