The Plano House That’s Perfect for Lovers of Outdoors and Electronics

This week’s High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans, takes us to the River Bend neighborhood in Plano — a beautiful area of late ‘70s and early ‘80s contemporary homes with a river of finger lakes running through it. It’s also my neighborhood, which gave me the chance to tour this lovely home yesterday.

With five bedrooms, three baths, and 3,038 square feet, this home could check a lot of boxes for a potential buyer. First, it’s large and spread out, and has multiple outdoor spaces. Like multiple multiple.

In front, a gate encloses a u-shaped patio with accent tree lighting. In back, a wooden covered patio that’s wired for sound and tv gives way to a huge brick paved sport court that has a lit basketball hoop and wooden play house. In the photo below, you’ll see that nice brick and wooden fence on the right and the wrought iron gated fence on the left. I’ll come back to the latter.

The second fenced backyard has a spa and pool with a dive rock and what I’d venture to say is a water feature emerging from the trio of cast iron fish there. Most homes around here have that awful pebble rock surface surrounding the pool — you know, the kind that wants to murder your feet — but somewhere along the way the owners replaced the entire hard surface and updated the pool, as well as added some serious landscaping lighting on the entire perimeter of the fence.

There. That’s the big surprise here. The home looks out onto the neighborhood finger lakes flush with rafts of mallards, sunbathing turtles, and fish that a neighbor stocks the lakes with. All that green space would be yours, up to the center of the creek, but the HOA takes care of the mowing and retaining wall maintenance for $500 annually.

Inside, a step-down living room features a floor-to-vaulted ceiling fireplace and a wet bar with a large Haier wine cooler. The bar opens to the kitchen full of Shaker style cabinets, a double oven, and built-in microwave.

The second living area features a tray ceiling, fireplace and a serious television component setup. Those drawers on the right are built in DVD storage, the white thingmabobs are in-wall speakers, and the openings on the left are pull-out trays that each are individually wired and powered.

I’ve mentioned a lot about lighting and wiring in this home. Why? Realtor Vicki Bell of Gem Realty says the owner’s late husband had a background in electrical engineering. “He really supercharged the electrical wiring in this home,” she says.

Elsewhere in the house, there are two bedrooms with high ceilings and built-in storage lofts, and a split bedroom ideal for guests or an office. The primary suite looks out onto the creek and has a private courtyard in the bathroom with tub and stand-alone shower. A fifth bedroom connects to the primary suite, which would make a perfect office as well.
