This 1939 Jewel Box Shines on Winnetka Ave in Oak Cliff

You’d think I’d run out of ways to gush about a house, but alas, I have NOT. Let’s see what I still have in the tank for this one. I have a feeling it’s a lot.

Like let’s start with Swoon City because this Oak Cliff home is the freaking mayor. It’s been the personal home to not one, not two, but three sets of owners with exceptionally exquisite taste. And likely a whole lot more since its birth in 1939, but we’re just talking in the last decade.

It started prior to 2017 when the then owners did a mechanical overhaul with plumbing, HVAC electrical, and all the unfun stuff. Then in 2017, a local interior design team bought the home and made it stellar with designer wallpaper, solid brass cabinet pulls, unbelievable light fixtures, and more.

It was already gorgeous when the current owner said, That is literally my style and I gots to have it. Likely not quite like that, but close. She came in and added the finishing touches – the dramatic paint in the sitting room, the metallic star dusted wallpaper on the ceiling and the custom wood panels stained to mimic the current paneling in the primary bedroom that flank either side of the picture-perfect bed. As a bonus, outside the window in the sitting room, there’s a chill little fountain to add a serene soundtrack to your cozy chats.

The furniture looks like it was made for the space. It was home harmony from the get-go. And I know this is a feature on the house, but I just have to pause to offer a standing ovation to the way this home is pulled together.

For starters this might be the single greatest rug collection of all time. Then there’s the color story. Don’t you hate me a little for saying “color story?” I do. But this one is so beautiful. It’s a vibrant, layered home with complementary colors galore. Like the peachy pink in the bathroom paired with the emerald green-grained granite that creates an eye-catching contrast.

The mix of modern and traditional. The way everything feels very collected and cohesive. I think this one is about as good as it gets. I’m going to try my best to move on to the home itself, but please understand, I might slip back into a positive adjective party because I cannot get enough.

Dave Perry-Miller’s Michael Mahon said behind the custom panels in the primary bedroom there are two additional windows with matching window treatments and bird-covered curtains. The curtains stay. The windows, too!

When Mahon called this one a jewel box, he might have even been underselling it. It’s the queen of the jewel boxes. Jaw dropping from the minute you step inside with designer touches literally everywhere you turn. It’s a Who’s Who of wall coverings like Phillip Jeffries, Rose Cummings, and Cole & Sons. The window treatments offer even more of a star-studded cast with Pierre Frey, Larsen, James Showroom Textiles, Holly Hunt, and Clarence House. Just to round out the namedrops, let’s cover the lighting with Jonathan Browning, Lawson Fenning, and Visual Comfort. That was a laundry list, but here at daltxrealestate.com we are nothing if not a resource so if you like what you see in any of these photos, that’s a hit list of where to start.

Mahon has 1227 N. Winnetka Avenue listed for $835,000 and he’s happy to meet you there at your earliest convenience to give you a personal tour. You might want to put those dialing fingers into action because I can’t imagine this one will last long.
