Space Age Modern Metal Masterpiece in Farmers Branch

We’ve loved this modern metal masterpiece, at 2619 Leta Mae Lane, since we first saw it back in November of 2015. We love it even more now that the price has been dropped to only $750,000 from the original $995 asking. This is the ultimate George Jetson house and although you’d expect to find it in Urban Reserve, it’s actually in, wait for it, Farmers Branch!

Truth be told, we are kind of bullish on Farmers Branch (though sometimes we wish they would change the name). Greatest real estate for the value — stay tuned for more on this community.

And guess who built this fantastic spec home? No, not a thirty-year-old hipster. It was commissioned by a determined, fantastically stylish and worldly, septuagenarian—who has just crossed the threshold into her next decade. We’re busting perceptions today. Farmers Branch can indeed be cool, and you certainly don’t have to be young to be hip. Au contraire!

“My client started building the house in 2013,” listing agent Grant Vancleve, with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s, said. “She’d lived in JanMar for years and decided to sell and finally build her dream home.”

And what a dream it is. It’s like a science fiction fantasy. The 2,325-square-foot home has three, bedrooms, two bathrooms, heated floors, and ticks every “green” box you can imagine, from geothermal to solar—and it has a generator. The total monthly average on utility bills is less than a hundred dollars.

“She said she wanted a modern house, with no issues, that could withstand a tornado,” Vancleve said. Architect John Shortall, with GDA Architects, was commissioned to turn her minimalist, elegant dreams into reality and came up with an all metal concept. There is not one spec of wood in the home. This house is meant to last.

The rounded ceiling was the owner’s idea having seen a similar one on her world travels and the fantastic architectural room divider is all individual ceramic pieces from Australia.

The Bulthaup kitchen includes Miele, Paykel, and Hobart appliances with a 90 second dishwasher cycle. Yes, you read that right, the commercial dishwasher completes the entire cycle in a minute and a half.

Now about that price reduction. Well, our hip seller is moving abroad and ready to go, so it’s an absolute bargain at $750,000.

And good for that hip seller!
