Southwest Airlines Taps Steamboat Springs For Its First Seasonal Hotspot

The word is out on Steamboat Springs! And thanks to Southwest Airlines, Dallasites are in for a real treat. The Dallas-based airline just announced it will start flying to one of Colorado’s hottest ski destinations, Steamboat, with plans to begin daily service by year’s end 2020.

Steamboat Springs is most famous for its champagne powder and world-class ski resort. But it’s also a hotbed for second home buyers, with Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club (AMRC) being its crown jewel.

AMRC is a 1,200-acre land preservation community that is ideally located, just seven minutes from downtown and five minutes from Steamboat’s ski resort. And the luxury second home community is sure to see a spike in sales once the carrier has lift off.

According to The Dallas Morning News, “Southwest bragged that it allows ski and snowboard equipment to fly free as part of its two-free-bags policy. Southwest said it will allow one pair of skis or one snowboard, a set of poles, and a pair of boots to be packaged as one bag, even if they are tagged separately.”

This will make it easier than ever for ski-loving Texans to travel to Steamboat on a whim, whether to post up in a second home or get cozy in a ski chalet at the resort.

Southwest flights to Steamboat Springs will fly from Denver International Airport, and schedules and fares will be available in the coming months. The airline hasn’t announced plans for service from Dallas Love Field yet, but here’s hoping!
