She Was Everything to Southwest Christian School and This Was Her Sanctuary

You know how the world is kind of on fire right now? And not like Hey World, you’re 🔥. But like what the actual heck is going on, the world is on fire!! Well, here’s a story that will extinguish those flames if only for two minutes. Or however long YOAST says this story will take the average reader.

Sharron Owen Drury

This story isn’t just about a house listed for sale by Barbara Schweitzer and Shelly Forrest of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. It’s also about the beloved owner of this Fort Worth home who was a pretty incredible lady named Sharron Owen Drury.

The late Ms. Drury was born in Fort Worth, graduated from R.L. Pascal High School, and after she got her bachelor’s degree from Abeilene Christian, spent her entire adult life in the town she loved. She was a public elementary school teacher before she took a volunteer role at Southwest Christian School.

Eventually, she filled just about every role at Southwest Christian. And I mean EVERY role. She was a volunteer P.E. coach and PTA president before she joined the staff as a 6th-grade teacher. She became Dean of Students, President, and a Development Officer. She even coached the varsity football team, the baseball team, and the basketball team at one point.

Shortly after all that, and don’t ask me how she had the energy, but she purchased and became chairman of Snelson Oilfield Lighting for 25 years. She was a member of the Fort Worth Woman’s Club, president of the Sorosis Club for Women — the first professional women’s organization in the U.S., received ACU’s Distinguished Alumni Award, and served on the university’s board. And seriously, that’s not even everything she did. Like we’re running out of digital ink over here. She was super involved in her community and obviously very well-loved.

A Home With A Heart

When we talk about houses, we don’t always get to talk about the people who filled it with the MEGA good vibes we feel the minute we walk in. Sharron was that owner.

She downsized to this cute little low-maintenance house a few years ago. And that’s one of the things she loved the most – it had all the space she needed including a guest room for out-of-town friends and the occasional grandkid.

It was also newer construction and considerably smaller than her previous home so — her words — “There wasn’t always something to do, fix, or take care of.”

Instead, she got to enjoy the active 55+ community of Ladera where she settled. There are pickleball courts, tennis courts, and a community center.

But the thing she loved the most about this home were the neighbors. She said it reminded her of childhood where electronics were at a minimum and instead, people spent their time socializing with neighbors.

Schweitzer and Forrest have 7616 Vista Bella Way listed for $525,000. The open house is this Sunday, Jan. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m.
