The spotlight is on Plano this week. The city rated two news stories last Sunday in the Dallas Morning News’ business section, putting the Collin County suburb in the headlines. No worries, though … the current events are good news.

First, the Shops at Willow Bend, a 107-acre mall that opened in 2001, is getting a major facelift. New plans call for an 18-story hotel, a seven-story office building, and 960 apartments.  All the better to make the ‘burbs a place to spend money.

Secondly, JCPenney, with its operation based in Plano, seems to be revived after bankruptcy. Leadership told the Dallas Morning News it now boasts 667 stores and 50 million customers. All the better to make the ‘burbs a place to live.

According to the most recent U. S. Census Bureau stats, Plano is home to more than 288,000 people and numbers more than 106,000 households. All those people need someplace to live, and this week daltxrealestate.com is featuring Plano open houses you can’t miss.

5824 Greenwyck Dr.

The red brick exterior, brick walkway, and towering tree give a warm welcome before ever walking into this traditional home. Located in Plano’s Castlemere neighborhood, it’s priced at $925,000.

A brick walkway leads to the door of this traditional home, built in 1997

Inside this 3,760-square-foot house — a great house for a family — you’ll find five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Soaring ceilings, oak hardwood floors, and fabulous views of the pool and backyard are part of its appeal. The family room features an impressive mantel and a gas log fireplace for cozy winter nights and a ceiling fan for those hot summer days.

The connecting gourmet kitchen is ready for entertaining. Granite countertops, KitchenAid appliances, a five-burner cooktop, double ovens, a center island, and a walk-in pantry are some of the perks. The breakfast nook adds to the family-friendly atmosphere here.

The warm wood trim and impressive fireplace complement to the hardwood floors.
A separate dining room allows family dinners in a light-filled space.

The home’s first floor also includes a primary bedroom with a door that opens to the patio. The updated bathroom offers such luxuries as a jetted tub, marble vanities, a frameless shower, and tumbled stone flooring.

The pool stands ready for summer swimming.

Upstairs the lovely staircase is the game room leading and three guest bedrooms. And in the tree-lined backyard, the family can enjoy the pool and spa.

Sharon Ketko of Sharon Ketko Realty will hold an open house here from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

6105 Candlepath Trail

A tall, shady tree accents the stately home —perfect for a family — for sale on Candlepath Trail. Built in 1983, this two-story home includes four bedrooms, three baths, and a two-car garage in its 2,715 square feet.

A mature shade tree adds to the curb appeal of this Plano home.

The foyer opens to elevated ceilings, giving an instant impression of space. Enter the light-filled living room with its vaulted ceiling, a dramatic fireplace, and a wet bar. The family chef will love the kitchen with plenty of storage, stainless steel appliances, granite tile countertops, and easy entry to two dining areas. The primary bedroom, also found on the first floor, includes a walk-in closet. The ensuite bathroom features double sinks, an oversized tub, and a separate shower.

A vaulted ceiling and dramatic fireplace accent the living room.

Take the elegant staircase to the second floor where more bedrooms are found. In the backyard, the covered patio opens to a spacious and shaded lawn where there’s room to play croquet or maybe a little baseball.

The kitchen features an eat-in breakfast nook.
The backyard features room for family games, pets, or both.

The price tag for this house found in the highly-rated Plano school district is $575,000.

Vincent Wright with Keller Williams Urban Dallas will hold this house open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, and again from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

2132 Deerfield Dr.

Another family-style home on the open house calendar this weekend is this four-bedroom, four-bath abode on Deerfield Drive. Priced at $689,000, the home includes 3,195 square feet of space for fun and entertainment.

The contemporary decor makes this Plano home stand out.

Custom plantation shutters and engineered hardwood floors are featured throughout the home built in 1995. The master suite is found on the first floor, as is an additional bedroom, easily ready to become a home office. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a media room remodeled to include an 82-inch TV and 5.1 Dolby digital surround sound.

The bold media room is ready for movie night.
The backyard comes party ready with a heated spa and the furniture is included in the sale.

The backyard is designed for entertaining. Imagine eating burgers in the outdoor dining area covered by a pergola. The diving pool with a heated spa (quick dip year round?) features a pool pump and filter installed in 2021. Did we mention the patio furniture is included in the home’s purchase price?

This home, listed by Sarah Matthews with Fathom Realty, will be held open from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.
