It’s clear this is no ordinary Park Cities home. From the moment you see the stop-you-in-your-tracks green Whisper Raum architectural retreat, you know you’ve stepped into the most stylish party pad on either side of the Atlantic. It’s absolutely no surprise this fab home belongs to Deborah and John Scott, co-founders of the members-only Park House social club in Highland Park Village.
The home brings a smile to your face at every turn. It’s eclectic, dramatic, colorful, and so refreshing in our current sea of beige, white, and gray interiors. Even if you had no idea who lived here, one look and you know these are people that understand the meaning of fun.
“I wanted a home I could roller skate in!”
The Scotts had been living in London, where older homes are common, but renovations and additions are decidedly modern, and the Brits have never shied away from color. When they found this traditional Park Cities house, Deborah knew she could bring some of that open, colorful, and fun style into a Dallas home for her family.
“I wanted a super clean kitchen, a great late-night spot for us to gather, and a floor plan open enough to have big dance parties and roller skate around!” she said.
Because the family was still in London, the Scotts flew in the crew they used on their Aspen house.
“They lived on site in the 1,500-square-foot guest cottage during the renovation,” Deborah said. “It was like man camp. They would grill in the backyard, and all the subs would find an excuse to be there for lunch, so work got done on time!”
They had architect Bentley Tibbs help with structural issues and adding architectural elements to make it their own. Doors were removed, and the doorways were enlarged to create that roller skate flow. Windows were lifted to be as high as possible. Even the staircase received a facelift.
The orange lacquer bar with the wonderful parrot wallpaper is the late-night hub for family and friends. Initially, it was two separate office spaces. Deborah opened the rooms to create what is now her favorite place in the house. You may have to win a skating race or do a dance-off with her to keep that bar.
The principal closet will seal the deal for any female buyer looking at this home. It was previously a game room. In other words, space is certainly not an issue.
And the principal bathroom is one of the more dramatic spaces in this Park Cities party pad. It’s black. And it is the most elegant and luxurious bathroom I’ve ever seen. Don’t worry. There’s excellent lighting.
The Scotts have loved their 6,674-square-foot, five-bedroom, five-bathroom home, but they are on to the next project, renovating a midcentury home in Greenway Parks that we cannot wait to see. So, now’s your chance to nab the ultimate cool Park Cities party pad.
