North Richland Hills has plenty of amenities, and they’re among the reasons this Tarrant County city ranked sixth on Opendoor’s national list of top 15 family-friendly cities and towns.
Some residents who pine for the good old days might dispute this assertion, but the city is in a sweet spot in Tarrant County. NRH benefits from Loop 820, Texas 183, U.S. 377, and Texas 26 coursing through its southern entrance. It works for commuters and for quick access to Fort Worth and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Yeah, the traffic can get a little rough on Loop 820 and Texas 183 during rush hours, but it’s not overwhelming. Everything you need is within a few blocks — the NRH2O Family Water Park, a Babe’s Chicken Dinner House, Iron Horse Golf Club, and parks here and there.
Across Texas 183 is Northeast Mall and the under-construction 52-acre mixed-use development where the old North Hill Mall stood.
Not bad for a city of 70,585 (based on the 2020 Census).

“We found that most family-friendly cities like North Richland Hills have quite a few common features — whether that’s a small-town feel or plenty of outdoor spaces to explore,” Beatrice de Jong, Opendoor Consumer Trend Expert.
Opendoor identified cities and towns on its list by analyzing and averaging the number of OpenStreetMap family-friendly tags that are within three miles of all addresses in a city where Opendoor Brokerage operates.
These tags include a community center, garden, museums, park, picnic site, playground, school, swimming pool, and supermarket.

Cambridge, Mass., topped the list. Cliffside Park, N.J., was second followed by Arlington, Va.; Chandler, Ariz.; and Tracy, Calif.
A lot of these qualities are also found in Opendoor’s Real Estate Trends Report for 2022.
De Jong pointed out that NRH has a new public library and recreation center, more than 800 acres of parkland, 30 miles of hike and bike trails, highly rated schools, and a wide range of housing options.
Mayor Oscar Trevino said: “Quality of life is important here, and it shows.
“Our great schools, convenient location, and wide range of housing options bring families to North Richland Hills and once they’re here, they’re hooked.”
