The New Oak Cliff Oh! Kessler Square Tudor is Oh-So-Sleek Inside

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the Oak Cliff “Oh!” It’s when a Cliff Dweller tells the uninitiated that they live south of the Trinity, and gets the response of “Oh!”

It’s almost like a version of “You poor thing,” or “Bless your heart.” That’s changing, though, as more people see the value in the tree-lined streets and gorgeous architecture that is abundant in North Oak Cliff. From Craftsman homes to colonials to Tudors and even midcentury moderns and more, this area is becoming known for its diversity and character.

Take this renovated 1925 Tudor inside the popular Kessler Square neighborhood. It is cute as a button from the curb, but inside you’ll find sleek and chic interiors that have been updated without obliterating the inherent charm that comes with homes from a certain vintage.

From the warm refinished hardwood floors to the wide trim and bright light pouring in from the windows, this home has so much charm and grace. The living room has plenty of built-ins framing the gorgeous period fireplace, and you’ll love the neutral paint and lovely warm decor. The dining room has a classic chandelier and  a perfect bank of windows.

In all, 1034 N. Winnetka has three bedrooms, two baths, 1,574 square feet and a beautiful lot all priced at $469,900. It just went on the market today, priced at almost $298 per square foot. That will give you an altogether different Oak Cliff “Oh!”

From top to bottom, the kitchen is the cutest thing ever. the only thing I’d change is the electric range. Gas would be a better option. Otherwise, the subway tile backsplash, two-tone cabinetry (dubbed “tuxedo style” by listing agent Kathy Hewitt) and tile floor are all just fantastic. The counters are easy to maintain quartz and the stainless steel appliances are just the right touch for a modern household.

The master suite is super cute, and has access to the backyard through a full-light atrium door. There are plenty of windows, but the layout feels a little tight at 13×13, so don’t expect to fit your oversized furniture in here and have room to breathe. However, that’s a pretty typical size for a home built in this era, as the king sized bed was likely reserved for royalty only.

Both of the bathrooms have vintage flair, with beadboard, subway tile, and a single pedestal sink. I do appreciate the seller’s desire to keep things fairly original, though some people might feel a bit cramped in this layout. Me? I kind of love it. It’s great to see a 90-year-old home look and feel someone reminiscent of its origins. In fact, I really like how the seller kept the telephone niche in the hallway, too. It’s those kind of details that jump out at buyers, that add character, and really make you feel like you’re making an investment in more than just a roof over your head — you’re buying a little bit of history. Albeit, history priced at just under $300-per-square-foot.
