Here’s a room on Pinterest that’s eclectic and bohemian. (Pinterest/Citizen Decor)

What interior home styles were we most interested in during 2021? We all make pithy comments about home styles while lurking through staged home interiors on real estate websites.

Turns out, Homedit.com wondered, too. The home-focused website was so curious that it came up with a list of design styles then searched boards on Pinterest to determine the most prominent.

You’re not going to see much Texas suburban influence on most of these styles. This is a national list in which you won’t run across many regional Texas designs, such as stars, cowhide, or driftwood.

But it is an interesting look into different home décor tastes.

Eclectic was the top choice with 747,480 pins on 988 different boards. Eclectic is characterized by mixing patterns, styles, and colors to create a unique but cohesive design. It’s a lot of contrasts.

“It’s all about mixing, matching, and layering,” Emerie Forehand, a Chicago-based interior designer told MyDomaine.com.

Coming in a distant second was bohemian, which is a freeform style of pattern, texture, and color. You might find boho in older neighborhoods with live plants. Think urban Austin.

“The bohemian life is centered around art, music, literature, and political discourse,” Beverly Solomon of Beverly Solomon Design in Austin told Vevano.com. “Nothing is selected to impress others, only to reflect one’s life story and values.”

No. 3 minimalist maximizes space with fewer furniture pieces. No. 4 modern is clean lines that make you want to take a trip to Dallas’ Design District.

No. 5 is modern rustic, which is better suited for Texas and probably something Joanna Gaines would recommend.

The least-pinned home design is crittal, which is generally used on doors or windows, or as room dividers to create an open-but-separate feel. Think heavy black lines set in contrast to sheer class.
