Kiestwood Split-Level Ranch Proves You Can Still Get a Great House for Just Over $200K

Deep in the heart of Oak Cliff, the Kiestwood neighborhood is a hidden jewel, with rolling hills, arching shade trees, and tons of vintage charms.

It’s also home to some seriously affordable real estate, like our Tuesday Two Hundred, located at 2412 Whitewood Dr. Our DFW market is certainly getting more expensive, but this house shows it is still possible to score something great for just over $200K.

Located on a landscaped cul-de-sac lot, this home has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath, and 1,794 square feet on three stories, built in 1960. It’s a split-level ranch with gleaming hardwoods, an updated kitchen, picture windows, spacious rooms, and a park-like backyard with a screened-in porch.

How is all this so affordable? That’s Kiestwood! Let’s take a closer look.

Kiestwood has more than 400 homes, most built between 1950 and 1965. The heart of the neighborhood is the 263-acre Kiest Park, a wonderful public space with a baseball field, sand volleyball court, garden areas, grill, outdoor basketball court, playground, rec center, trails, and more.

Kiestwood is also popular for its proximity to the Bishop Arts District (five miles away) and other areas of North Oak Cliff, as well as its access to downtown (nine miles away). It’s also noted for its strong community spirit and proud “Cliff dwellers,” as residents call themselves.

According to the Kiestwood Historical Homeowners Association, the neighborhood’s boundaries are between Kiest Boulevard, Southwood Drive, Hampton Road, and Cedarhurst Drive. They say the homes contained in there represent the largest, intact concentration of Midcentury ranch styled structures in Dallas.

This property offers great drive-up appeal, with manicured landscaping and a pretty facade. Inside, there’s immediately a spacious living room with picture windows looking out onto the front lawn and a wood-burning fireplace. The flow of the rooms is easy, moving naturally from one space to the next.

With a totally updated look, the kitchen is a real star. Think granite countertops, new cabinets with soft close drawers, Bosch stainless steel appliances (including a gas cooktop), and built-in microwave and wine refrigerator.

A few areas of the house feel a little dated, like a wood-paneled second living area and older bathrooms, but those are very fixable, especially when the home is priced so well. The bedrooms are large with good-sized closets, and overall, the home feels bigger than it’s 1,794 square feet.

In back, there’s a screened-in porch, butterfly garden, patio, and fountains with lots of grassy green space, too.

This home was listed July 15 by Pam Smith with Ebby Halliday Realtors for $235,000.
