Just What the Doctors “O”rdered: Pristine Perfection in Preston Hollow

An “O” House is a home so fabulous you have to drop whatever you are doing (yeah, even that) or holding, including your nail file, to look!

I have often said that the best person to buy a house from is a doctor. Why? They are compulsive, take care of systems to the n th degree, and are highly intelligent. Most of the most complex and detailed homes I have seen belonged to physicians. So if they have designed or built a home, watch out, it’s usually loaded. And it is usually very eco-minded, too, like, say, having a charging station in the garage for the electric car. Or a back-up generator for the entire home in case of a storm.

You know, in case you have to do surgery!

6615 Glendora belongs to not just one but TWO doctors, one an M.D., one a Ph. D. It offers one of the roomiest homes in Preston Hollow (6,217 square feet) with a large backyard, saltwater swimming pool, immaculate Koi pond loaded with healthy fish, 14-foot ceilings, hand-scraped quartersawn hardwood floors, a private outdoor terrace with a fountain, and a wine closet off the sparkling clean, looks-like-it’s-never-been-used kitchen.

In fact, the entire house is as clean as an operating room. Looks like it has been a show home, not a private family residence for 18 years. The home has been painted, primped, and updated and priced exceedingly well — at DCAD value! Built by the late, great Oscar Ponder, and Don Capertone was the designer.

You enter up the stone walkway to a broad front porch large enough for twin benches. To the right is the gurgling fountain, which the front study (or third living area) opens to through French doors.

The foyer is broad and pulls you right into the home. I have been to parties at this house and the traffic flow for entertaining is brilliant. The dining room is to your right, but not immediate right. (There are 2 split garages, one a one-car, the other a two-car). A small hallway on the east side of the dining room connects to the garage and takes you to the huge kitchen, so large it is almost two kitchens in one. This was particularly graceful when cruising the buffet: Guests didn’t get jammed in the corners. Two china hutches are also built into the dining room corners.

Straight through the foyer, however, is the formal living room with imported antique mantel and full scale views of the lush patio and pool. Turn right, and you are in the breakfast room — all windows — sharing the view. Beyond this, tucked into northeastern corner of the house, is a huge family/great room sharing the same beams crisscrossing the kitchen ceiling. A wall of Austin stone surrounds the fireplace.

A note about the kitchen: It’s white and bright, with granite counters, custom vent hood, antique tiles, several sinks and workspaces, and custom veggie and dry goods drawers. There is also a bricked, walk-in wine room.

The master is on the first floor, on the western wing of the home, accessible off the formal living area. A linen closet is thoughtfully placed in the walkway to the master. Off the master is an oversized spa bath with richly marbled dual vanities, soaking jetted tub, walk-in shower, and extra makeup vanity. The huge closet with abundant built-in storage is next, featuring a safe room.

Note: you could easily create a door between this closet and the study, perhaps a hidden door, to grant quicker access.

Upstairs are three additional bedrooms, all with en suite baths and generous closets: the kids will be in heaven.

Then there is the billiard/game room, huge and easily holding a large pool table with abundant built-in shelves and storage cabinets.

But wait, there is more: off the billiards room is a huge office with built-in desks, taking up all the space above the three car garages. I mean, this house goes on and on but in the best possible, highly organized way.

You would almost think a doctor had designed it!

Outside is a covered patio with retractable windscreens, a built in grill away from the house to minimize smoke, and that glorious saltwater pool with spa and waterfall. The yard is basically zero mowing, maintenance consists of keeping the lush plants pruned and fertilized. The koi pond is maintained by a monthly service and features stepping pads, which could also be a very cool entrance to the home if you are having a theme-based party.

And yes, there is a back up power generator so if the grid goes down, you will have power AND a Tesla charging station in the garage. There isn’t really anything else you can ask for except two thousand dollars: that’s all this home is priced over DCAD value for: $1.549 million. Listed with Diane DuVall Rogers at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Real Estate.

I mean, just what the doctors ordered!
