July Fourth Picks: Lakewood Parade-Adjacent Clifford Hutsell Home Ready for Celebrating

CDlwj47203LakewoodLEADIn our third and final Independence Day pick, we take you to a home that is a less-than-one-minute walk to the route for the venerated neighborhood gem known as the Lakewood Fourth of July Parade.

The parade has maintained its neighborhood feel and roots since its beginnings in 1964 when the parade, according to local lore, consisted of “the two Neikirk children riding their bikes for about 2 houses on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of Lakewood Blvd.”

Today, the parade is chock-a-block full of local school representation, local politicians, families, neighbors, and the de rigueur floats that give a nod to Lakewood legends and inside jokes.

Needless to say, finding a home along this parade route is hard. But we did manage to find one that is so close you could practically fall over and land in the parade, and it’s a beautiful historic 1931 Tudor to boot.

The home, located at 7203 Lakewood Boulevard, is 2,260 square feet with three bedrooms and two full baths. It was designed and built in 1930 by Clifford Hutsell, making it a true Dallas landmark.

“The moment you enter this updated Clifford Hutsell gem, you know you are someplace special,” said listing agent Susan Baldwin with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International.

And she’s right — there are signature Hutsell features throughout the home, including the stained glass, the Rookwood fireplace, the tall ceilings and the arched doorways.

“The eat-in kitchen features stainless appliances, walk-in pantry, and windows galore,” Baldwin said.

Downstairs two living areas mean that a Lakewood family could have grown up space and family-friendly space. An eat-in kitchen is light and airy and opens to the backyard.

The master suite is generous and has two closets and an updated bath. Upstairs, two bedrooms and another full bath complete the home.

Outside, an adorable garden space can make you forget you’re smack dab in the middle of Dallas.

The home is listed for $849,000, and has been on the market for 15 days.
