Inwood Mortgage House of the Week: Highland Park Honey Has Best Guest House in Dallas County

Inwood-HOTW4511-ArcadyHere is a vintage Highland Park honey built in 1936 but significantly remodelled, majorly taken to the studs, back in 2002. Everything in the main house has been replaced, from windows to roof and of course all the innards, maintaining the traditional finish that just spells “HOME”. Then, the owners went a little maniac (in the best possible way) and added a 2500 square foot guest house, complete with a wine cellar, that will knock your socks off. And best of all,  4511 Arcady is available for less than $2 million.

There are rich, gorgeous hardwoods throughout the home, original and updated. And by the way, you might not know it from a street perusal, but this is a pretty big house. We are talking 6421 square feet total of the main house and the back guest cottage. So your square footage goes like this: 3,888 for the main house, and 2,533 for the guest house built brand new in 2003. If you have never lived with a guest house, you do not know what you are missing. And trust me, this is a guest house to end all guest houses! We all get company, we love it, and it is equally lovely to let them have their own space — those guests being in-laws, our grown children, or friends with children. When they leave, you lock up and crank down the a/c or heat — tremendous savings on energy bills. It’s really quite smart, because while you have the extra space, you can “bank it” in more ways than one!

Then, too, you can always lease that space out. I’m thinking to a very hot house manager, but I digress.4511-Arcady-foyer

4511-Arcady-master-bath-2In the main house, the formals are hefty and I love the original stone fireplace in the living room as well as the moldings. Kitchen updated with your requisite stainless appliances and Viking range. Like a chicken in every pot, there’s a Viking in every Highland Park home. All four bedrooms are upstairs — including the master. The master bath is also new and large, with separate shower, soaking tub, and twin pedestal vanities. There are four bedrooms in the main house, three full and one half baths.

Now let me tell you about that guest house — you just may want to live there! Get this: FOUR STORIES including the basement which is filled with a media room and a wine cellar. Floor one is an entertainment room with full kitchen to access the pool, floor two a living room, floor three bedroom and full bath.

Your guests will like this better than the Ritz! Both houses overlook the luscious pool and the Harold Leidner landscaping magic, as only he can do.

I think, but am not 100% certain, that you can no longer build fabulous tall guest houses in Highland Park like this, which makes this home all the more special. Perfect house for Monday’s Memorial Day barbecue… just tell me what to bring!
