“Residential Building Booms,” a headline proclaims in this Jan. 1939 edition of the Dallas Morning News. Texas was experiencing a home building boom not seen since 1932, so the full-page “Notes on Construction in Dallas” told new home dreamers of the latest trends in home-building.

A screened-in porch on Prospect Ave. near Abrams would be used for entertaining, while a living room that spans the width of the home on Fowler St. near Marsalis will have three-way ventilation. This week’s High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans had such a uniquity: “Winding Path Planned at Mockingbird Home.”

This charming 1,530-square-foot cottage is packed with dreamy curb appeal and does not lack for charm inside, too, says listing agent Phillip Murrell of Compass RE Texas. The white painted brick facade — how it was originally designed — and wood shingle accents make this home a stand out while still preserving the historic character of Stonewall Terrace.

Inside, the front living room features a fireplace flanked by twin shelving niches and quarter sawn oak hardwood floors throughout. The cozy kitchen (ok, yes it’s small) features light-colored granite countertops, subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and slate tile floors.

There’s a pass-through bar to the second living room that features a bright pop of blue built-ins, framing a thin row of glass blocks. Two walls of windows have views of the backyard and access to an expansive deck. With three bedrooms, this cottage offers a beautiful space to work from home in the back of the home.

All this, plus you can’t beat the location. It’s located in the coveted Mockingbird Elementary School district and centrally located near Lower Greenville, White Rock Lake, and the Katy Trail Extension.

Phillip Murrell of Compass RE Texas has listed 4221 Camden Ave for $499,000.
