You cannot say that many homes improve with age, but this one sure does.
I first wrote about 4321 Travis when pro golfer Jordan Spieth sold it in 2015 — for more than asking price! As I said then, the location was Apple delicious: you could actually flip-flop it to Knox Street, the Apple Store, Kate Spade, Starbucks, all the great shops and fooderies of Knox-Henderson.
The townhome back then was totally “loaded to the gills.”
Kicking It Up a Notch
But having one of the tip-top luxury home builders move in kicked it up several serious notches. Spieth sold it to golfer Karl Williams in 2015, and the Sebastians picked it up two years later.
Completely renovated and upgraded in 2017 by the Sebastian Construction Group, the townhome is now a haute couture city home rather than a bachelor pad, still boasting a beautiful courtyard with firepit and a peaceful waterfall fountain and much more.
“When we first toured the home, there was a pool table in the living room, and a hot tub on the patio” says Patti Sebastian.
Now there are three full patios, one in the courtyard entry with waterfall and that glass fire pit, another in a tree-shaded patio off the dining room level with Travis Street. The townhome is deceptively large — 4386 square feet. There are three large bedrooms, three full and one-half bath, a huge master, a media room, a nook overlooking the main living area used as a cozy TV room for two, a full laundry room, and two-car garage.
Being a builder’s home, there is more than ample storage everywhere, and John even fashioned a dog door out to the side yard dog run.
As before, you walk right into a limestone foyer and floors everywhere of rich, dark bamboo. To the left/ahead is a huge living area, the dining room nestled against glass doors leading to the Travis Street lower patio. To the right is what may be a Bulthaup kitchen, updated and loaded with sleek counters, cabinets, and the latest appliances such as hidden refrigerator drawers, double dishwashers, and wine cooler. Up a short hall and four steps is the doggy door, the powder room and door to the garage. There is an elevator around the corner to all three floors, a Godsend, says Patti Sebastian, who needed it a few weeks after they moved in for orthopedic reasons.
And there is a soaring white brick wall connecting the entire home, like a boulder.
The landing overlooking the living area, used as a TV room for two, holds the second balcony overlooking Travis.
The principal suite luxuriously consumes the second floor, and John added a coffee bar with refrigerator drawers in a vestibule dressing area. But it is the principal bathroom where you get the “hush” moment: walk into dramatic double doors to new walnut-laminated surfaces and opposite his/her sinks.
This primary bath apparently had no doors on the closets, which Sebastian quickly remedied.
On the third floor, where you find the media room, laundry, and two en suite bedrooms, John managed to create a visual separation to break up the theater between the hall and open stairway with a white decorative trellis that is stunning.
It is surprising how spacious the home is despite its compactness. John Sebastian credits the architect, Brent Brown.
“Brent did a great job of carving many outdoor spaces in a townhome, and bringing in so much natural light,” says John.
The home is also among the most energy-efficient, with I.C.F. construction and low utility bills. That has been perfect for the Sebastians, who lock and leave almost every week to spend time at their ranch in Athens.
This stunner at 4321 Travis is listed with Wendy Harkness at Dave Perry-Miller for $1.61 million and just hit the market July 30.
