Hollywood Heights Tudor Cottage with Picture Perfect Provencal Style

914-Cordova-ext-1024x768If living in the South of France is not an option for you, we’ve found the next best thing. Our Friday Four Hundred is a truly stunning Hollywood Heights Tudor cottage, at 914 Cordova, that will make you think you’ve slipped into a designers Provencal farmhouse the moment you cross the threshold.

This 1940s Tudor has been transformed over the years into a rustic-yet-chic home that exudes warmth, largely due to the talents of the seller — artist and photographer Patricia Zane Edwards. Edwards purchased the 1,432-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bath cottage in 2011 and has spent what can only amount to thousands of hours adding her special touches to the home and completely rehabilitating the garden and Koi pond.GetMedia-31-1024x768

An Ann Sacks tile inset on the covered front porch gives a hint of what’s to come inside.

The eclectic mix of materials, including antique limestone, custom mosaic tiles and rustic wood shutters in the house firmly establishes the style. There is something unique everywhere you cast an eye.

If you know Hollywood Heights at all, you know a stained glass window is a much-coveted detail in the neighborhood. Edwards designed the stained glass window in the living room and had it created by the Scottish Stained Glass Company. She also added European-style casement windows. It’s brilliant to see a homeowner go to such lengths to add just the right embellishments.

No detail has been overlooked. Even the original telephone niche has been embellished with mosaic tile.

“The kitchen cabinets were originally dark wood,” Edwards said. “They made the whole kitchen dark and were not bringing out the gray color and the antiquity of the French brick backsplash. Edwards was determined to do right by that backsplash and decided on treating them to Annie Sloan chalk paint, gilded details and a waxed finish. This is not a process for the faint of heart or a beginner in the world of DIY. Remember, Edwards has a talent for this sort of thing and spent a lot of time learning the ropes. She also added  the distressed wood kitchen island, topped with an Ann Sacks antique limestone.

More Italian limestone covers the floors and runs throughout the kitchen adding to the rustic feel. Double doors open onto the organic garden creating an effortless transition. “They bring the outdoors into the house,” Edwards said. “You can have them open all day long and the sound of the pond will filter throughout the house.”
