Highland Park English Tudor with Timeless Style, Modern Updates and a Perfect Location

This lovely Highland Park English Tudor at 4524 Edmondson ticks all the boxes. Timeless style, smart updates, great flow, and most of all, a modern house that successfully capitalizes on the charming look of an older home.

From the curb you could easily mistake this as a 1920s build instead of 2001 construction. This is only one of two spec homes built by Karl Hirschey, who was known for his hands-on approach. It’s a pity he’s retired from the building business, but some lucky buyer can move right into this beauty and know they won’t have to do a thing but entertain. They’ll also have bragging rights.

“The first owners were Brenden and Anne Marie Morrow,” listing agent Sylvia Scott with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, said. “Brenden was a captain with the Dallas Stars from 2006-2013 and is now retired from hockey.” A classic home and a brush with sports fame — what more could you want?

Leaded glass windows on the façade of the home lend that 1920s old world charm, but the moment you enter it’s all 2016. The living room has gorgeous coffered ceilings, which give just the right touch of formality without feeling overwhelming. This is an excellent example of throwing caution to the wind when using bold ceiling detail in a smaller room. It works beautifully here.

The dining room is simple and elegant, with wainscotting defining the walls. Hardwood flooring runs throughout the house creating connection between rooms and a great sense of flow.

“The updates that were made to this house since it was built were very smart,” Scott said. “The counters are stainless steel, which lends a modern feel, but works really well with the kitchen as a whole. The owner was skeptical of the counters at first, but said she has loved them and they clean up so easily.”

Carrara marble, subway tiles, an island with a cute prep sink, and of course, the fact the kitchen opens right into the family room, are all coveted elements in any home.

The first-floor study has beamed ceilings and built-in bookcases and is painted the perfect shade of gray.

The five bedrooms are all upstairs, each with its own bathroom. The present owners are using the fifth bedroom, which is huge, as a game room. “The game room is accessed through a lovely window-lined walkway, so if kids get loud and crazy you won’t hear them,” Scott said.

The master bedroom is huge, with vaulted ceilings and more leaded glass windows. There is, of course, the cannot-live-without, his-and-hers closet.

An elevated patio overlooks a beautiful pool with rock waterfall feature and gorgeous tropical landscaping.

We always talk about how important location is when purchasing a home. Well, not only do you have fabulous schools, Fairfax Park and the Highland Park tennis courts are right across the street. Location, classic style, and flawless updates — all you need is $2.25 million and it’s yours.
