High-Caliber Agent: Micky Carr

Headshot-2014-Hi-Rez-Micky

There’s so much more to the real estate business in North Texas than sales numbers, notable listings, and a brokerage pedigree, but we don’t often get to focus on who our neighborhood Realtors really are, what they’re passionate about, and what inspires them.

That’s the goal of our High-Caliber Agent series, which takes a more introspective look at some of the best real estate agents the our region has to offer. These agents don’t just focus on closings and contracts, but instead treasure and appreciate the people who make the business.

Our second High-Caliber Agent sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans has succeeded at pretty much every aspect of the real estate business, but returned to his roots as a builder. Micky Carr, who founded Spruce Designs with two of his childhood friends, not only has a thriving real estate business with David Griffin & Company Realtors, but has taken his brand to a whole new level with his design-build firm. See what inspires this real estate Renaissance man, our High-Caliber Agent sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans after the jump!

daltxrealestate.com: Real Estate is a very competitive business. To what or whom do you owe your success?

Micky Carr: Since I got my license 18 years ago, almost every facet of the business has changed dramatically. What hasn’t changed is the human condition and how they appreciate smart, genuine, trustworthy and hardworking people. When I represent a seller or a buyer, I give the service I would expect. Exhibiting these characteristics yields repeat clients and their referrals.

CD: Outside of day-to-day business, what are you passionate about?

MC: While remaining an agent at David Griffin & Company, last October I left my role as Sales Manager to return to my roots, home design and general contracting. (I built custom resort homes with my parents for over a decade on Lake Whitney south of DFW).

With two of my childhood friends, now in our 40s, we formed Spruce Designs, a design-build company. In fact our latest project goes into MLS this week, a stunning Hill Country Modern in Jan Mar. Even though that is my day-to-day business, even in my down-time, I find myself scrolling through Houzz, gathering ideas to implement into my next project.

Other passions include my dogs, Maverick and Nala. Maverick is a pure bred British Staffordshire Bull Terrier (think miniature pit-bull). My rescue Nala, is a super sweet Doberman-Pitt Bull Mix. Also, tennis is my game… I’ve been known to schedule vacations around pro tournaments so I can get a glimpse of the greats… Venus, Serena etc. ….

CD: What (or who) is your inspiration?

MC: After graduating from UT (Austin) I was in the TV news business, writing for News 8 Daybreak at WFAA, and even had a stint as news anchor for a hot minute at San Angelo’s CBS affiliate. I came across a lot of high-profile people, so I’m not the type to be star-struck by anyone. I have a pretty healthy sense that everyone really does put their pants on one leg at a time. But I do admire many people and what they have accomplished. I try to implement their best attributes in my life, all the while learning from their mistakes.

CD: Why is finding the right lender crucial to your success?

MC: In today’s real estate climate, there are many stumbling blocks and land mines in the course of a transaction. I have found the key to successfully navigating your clients to the closing table is picking an A+ cast of supporting players, people who do business like you do business. These roles include escrow agents, inspectors, and probably most important, a lender. I want a lender who has the experience, talent, and integrity to take our massive amount of banking laws, apply them to an individual borrower, and then find the best loan product for them — all while making them feel good about the process. That’s why I refer Lisa Peters with Caliber Home Loans. She’s the complete package.
