Greenway Parks is a distinctive Dallas neighborhood, to say the least. It’s included in The National Register of Historic Places, has received The Neighborhood Achievement Award from Preservation Dallas and was chosen as one of Texas’ 25 Best Places by the Texas Society of Architects. That’s some pedigree. It’s also nestled between Bluffview and the Park Cities, minutes from Love Field and the Southwestern Medical District: location, location, location.
It was designed in 1927 by David R. Williams, in the English tradition of having a “common-green,” a green space for use by the neighborhood community. This was a novel concept for Americans in the 1920’s, so you can say Greenway Parks was setting the pace back then and has continued to do so throughout history. Architects of note, like O’Neill Ford and Howard Meyer, have designed significant homes in the neighborhood, it’s zoned as a Conservation District and the HOA ensures not only is your home protected but you will also have a lot of fun if you can find a home for sale. And we did, on one of the largest lots in Greenway Parks.
Joe Kobell, with Ebby Halliday Realtors, has 5343 Wenonah listed for $1,725,000. The home was built in 1948 and it’s a great example of a flawlessly updated Mid-Century Modern, Ranch hybrid with clean lines, classic form and the flow of light that are hallmarks of this era. The impressive contemporary horizontal windows and mitered glass corner windows take our breath away.
The light, bright interior has bleached white oak hardwood flooring we’re sure architects of the ’40’s would approve of wholeheartedly. The living room has a wall of bookcases that echo the shape of the windows and the fireplace has a simple modern form that anchors the room with clean classic style.
The kitchen is a modernists dream. Clad in pure white, it’s a refreshing, smart, minimalist design with a rocking stainless steel Sub Zero refrigerator and an island with a five-burner gas range. A second living area at the end of the kitchen, overlooking the pool, is the perfect place for guests to sip wine and enjoy watching the chef du jour in action. That bleached hardwood vaulted ceiling is spectacular.
The master suite is on the second floor and has that same splendid ceiling and a serene view of the treetops from the bed. A bright white spa-like bathroom with dual sinks and streamlined storage completes the tranquil look.
The spacious backyard has a lagoon-style pool, private garden, and a large brick patio – perfect for entertaining your new neighbors because, let’s face it, you’re going to love them.
