Green Acres Making Green: The Financial Rewards And Benefits of Farmland

Founder and Farmer, ZUBI’s

Globally, about 36 percent of farm operators are women, making us one of the fastest-growing sectors of farmers. As a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and interior design hobbyist, life gets to be overwhelming and seemingly too much.

Thankfully, gardening just twice a week improves well-being and relieves stress and it’s something I try to touch at least 1 hour a week. I’m not saying that everyone should become Martha Stewart and make this their life’s mission, but a healthy dose of dirt and digging connects us to the earth, reduces stress, and could also help the well-being of your finances.

As people are trending towards making this full or partial shift to rural life, I’m focusing on our growing schedule and productivity as much as possible because my farm is a teaching tool and an example of what the future of farming could look like. Since ZUBI’S is going to continue to use our harvested produce, I cannot forego the organic and regenerative farming supply system I have created.

I am piecing together a small panel at our ZUBI Farms for real estate professionals and the rural-curious in a few months to give potential farm or ranch buyers a launching point on rural life. Now, full disclosure: I am very much the person living part-time on the farm — I am still heavily involved in the music and arts, fashion, and my kiddos’ robust lives in Dallas.

However, I do believe a sound investment in anyone’s financial future should include diversification into farmland. The data points toward a need for a more secure food supply. Even Bill Gates has been acquiring farmland through an investment firm. Though his overview of food supply tends to glaze over regenerative agriculture, indoor farming, and farmland biodiversity, we can still benefit from filling in these gaps within our own homes.

With small yet meaningful steps in our lives, we can make a shift towards a financial rewards, better health, and protecting our earth. For now, I leave you with some fantastic, farm-fresh recipes I’ve created as a droplet of inspiration!
