Fox 4’s Becky Oliver Transitioning From Tough Investigative Report to… Realtor?

Becky-Oliver

No kidding: Becky Oliver is retiring from Fox 4 after 24 years, 33 years total in television. And guess what she plans to do next? Have her Realtor’s license by August. Here’s what she told Ed Bark in Uncle Barky’s Bytes:

Oliver, who’s husband, Gerald, is an attorney, notes they’ve been “very active in real estate” for the last decade. So it’s a “very logical jump for me right now” to get a full-time realtor license, which she expects to have by August.

“I will not slow down,” she says. “I go 100 miles an hour, 24/7.”

TV News is one of the most energy-consuming businesses there is. Becky, who is 55,  has been Fox 4’s bulldog gumshoe fighting for people who were wronged. I’m not surprised she’s married to an attorney — and she has a masters degree from Northwestern. Very smart gal:

Our stories have not gone unnoticed. In 2014,  I was honored with my 20th EMMY Award for a story on fraudulent inspection stations.  And in 2013 and 2012,  the Lone Star EMMY Awards honored me personally for “Best Investigative Reporter” in the region for investigations that uncovered nursing home abuses, airport security problems and housing title fraud. A recent two year investigation into a controversial guardrail system ended with a Texas jury deciding a Dallas based company defrauded the federal government involving safety issues.

Our investigations have also led to the federal convictions of nearly a dozen people involved in mortgage fraud, stories we first began reporting on back in 2005. Several home health care operators are also serving federal sentences after our undercover stories exposed Medicare billing abuses.  Other stories have triggered cease and desist orders, school closings and consumer refunds. In 2011, five new bills were signed into law in Texas, a direct result of stories we uncovered that triggered legislative action.

She sure has had a great impact on life here in North Texas. And she will continue to, by selling dirt.

But get this: on top of a full-time career, and on top of being married to an attorney, Becky and Gerald have SIX KIDS!

Can you imagine if she plunges into real estate as hard as she plunged into investigative reporting? Oh and don’t try and pull any fast ones on her or her clients: I have a feeling Becky will be as tough at negotiating as she has been at investigative reporting. Dying to know what firm she ends up with… what do you think?
