Houses should offer a sense of discovery, according to architect Paul Jankowski.

Timeless design is one of those phrases that gets thrown around — a lot. Maybe the best qualifier is looking at a property and having no idea when it was built. Not to mention it being as cool 10, 20, and even 50 years later.

Take the newly listed home at 1 Green Park Drive in North Dallas, for example. “It’s the epitome of timelessness,” Compass agent Suzanne Warner said. “The incredible architectural and interior design by Zero 3 Architecture was totally ahead of its time.”

The residence, built in 2006 by Sharif and Munir Custom Homes, oozes style. Located on a cul de sac in a private gated community, the residence has three separate structures: a 4,258-square-foot main house, a 982-square-foot pool house, and a 400-square-foot gym.

Warner credits Zero 3 owner/architect Paul Jankowski for his foresight and design savvy. “There are different places to go, but you’re still on your property. Paul designs homes that are more of an experience.”

We caught up with the talented designer at the AIA Home Tour preview party, which just so happened to be at another one of Jankowski’s contemporary homes — this one just off Turtle Creek Boulevard. It’s easy to spot the similarities, starting with an impressive entry that opens to a spacious, airy, light-filled living area.

“We like that our houses have a sense of discovery.”

At the Green Park house, that translates to three bedrooms, each offering a different sleeping experience. “The original owner wanted to be able to sleep in any one of them, at any given time,” Jankowski said.

He likens the primary suite to a luxurious retreat. Glass doors open up to a stone patio overlooking the saltwater pool.

Bedroom No. 2 is situated above a state-of-the-art media room. Designed for entertaining, the lounge-like open-theatre sports ample seating, a new Sony projector, a 12-foot cabinet, and an 8-foot screen.

A two-story cabana with an attached deck houses the third sleeping area. “It has four glass walls,” Jankowski said.

“It feels like you’re at a lake house without ever leaving home.”

The gourmet Bulthaup kitchen has built-in Miele appliances, two refrigerators, and two dishwashers. There’s also a coffee bar, warming trays, and a six-seat breakfast counter.

Outside features a fireplace, a sitting area, and ample bench seating. “The house is designed to bring the outdoors in from every corner,” Warner said. Additional amenities include a Control4 smart home system complete with control-connected devices for lighting, audio, video, climate control, and security.

Intentionally, there’s no garage or back door. In the case of the former, different owners have used the space as a photo studio, game room, or exercise room, Jankowski said.

As for the latter? “Why should the experience of walking through the front door be reserved for guests?” he asked.

Warner Group holds the listing. Asking price: $3,295,000.
