Update 4:00 pm: Very sad to report that the man, who was an intruder, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. When police arrived on the scene, the intruder refused to surrender.  SWAT was called and they were able to evacuate two people from the residence from the roof.  Then when SWAT entered the home, they found the gunman, dead, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Update 11:36 am: Police now have the suspect in custody, according to WFAA-TV.

Sources tell me a 50 year old, who is not the home owner, barricaded himself in a Highland Park house with a gun. A Highland Park senior and the housekeeper who were in the house when this happened, were trying to get on the roof to get away.

“Police heard a gun shot but don’t know if he killed himself or anyone else, they are waiting for the SWAT team. Firemen were going to get a ladder to help, but it was considered too dangerous.”

This from WFAA-TV:

DALLAS — Police are on the scene of a barricaded person in the Highland Park neighborhood of Dallas.

Sgt. Lance Koppa says officers were called about a person with a gun in the 3500 block of Beverly Drive near Hillcrest.

The street has been closed in both directions while police investigate.

According to a text alert sent by the Highland Park Independent School District, students at nearby Armstrong Elementary are safe and the Highland Park ISD police chief is on campus. Visitors are asked to stay away from the school for the time being.
