Did Someone Purchase The Belmont Hotel?

The Belmont Hotel is a well-known landmark in Oak Cliff, keeping watch over Fort Worth Avenue from its perch. But since the pandemic, the site has been closed and empty, a sad contrast from its livelier days.

That all could change soon, as lights are on at the historic hotel and construction fences have been spotted. Rumors were circulating that Todd Interests, the famed family development company that brought the East Quarter of downtown Dallas back to life with its revolutionary development plan, were on deck.

Preserving The Belmont Hotel

The Belmont Hotel, redeveloped by Monte Anderson and the one-time home of chef-driven barbecue restaurant Smoke, was purchased by a partnership that included banking scion Jordan Ford in 2015. However, the 64-room hotel has sat empty and its pool woefully lacking any sunbathers since COVID forced us all into isolation.

Designed by the famed architect Charles Dilbeck, the building itself could soon be the scene of pool parties if rumors are true. We checked in with Todd Interests to see if they had purchased the hotel from Ford.

“We have been diligently working with the Ford family on plans to carefully preserve and restore The Belmont,” said Philip Todd, partner at Todd Interests. “Although we cannot comment further at this moment, we look forward to sharing more details at a later point in time.”

We’re keeping our fingers and toes crossed that cocktails around the midcentury motel’s famous pool deck is something we can do soon.
