Cutting Edge Modernism in The Peninsula

Bold and beautiful with all the hallmarks of a classic modernism. The sculpture is by Laura Walters.

Something’s happening in the Peninsula neighborhood, near the shores of White Rock Lake. Cutting edge modernism is slowly casting this area in an exciting new light. Location is everything, so it’s inevitable that new construction would begin popping up here. The area is rife with empty-nesters who have fled the Park Cities and North Dallas for smaller lots, sleeker homes, and the chance to spend every night walking by the water. In the 1920s, the neighborhood’s close proximity to the lake was a big draw for Dallas residents. They built weekend getaway cottages, because then, the area was considered to be out in the country. As Dallas grew, White Rock Lake became not so far away, but the Peninsula was still one of the best-kept secrets in town.

In fact, if you want in, you need a very connected agent.

So we were excited to see that 9333 Biscayne Blvd. was listed by Ben Jones of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s for $1.75 million recently. Dreams of living the lake life filled our heads. Maybe if we pool our resources … well, there are five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 4,103 square feet — plenty of room for Candy’s goldendoodle, Bree, to roam. (She loves lakeside living!) Sigh. Falling in love with houses comes with our territory, and there is such a lot to love about this one. You simply have to see this:

It’s a sculptural statement that ticks all the boxes. A bold roofline, simplicity in form and design, an open floor plan and enormous windows.

“It was designed by Douglas Hildinger of H2LR Design Studio,” Jones said. “The finish-out is just incredible. There’s lighting by Artemide and Driade. The kitchen has compressed quartz countertops and the kitchen cabinetry is Valcucine by Pohlenz Cucine Moderne.”

That’s essentially the Maserati of cabinetry — and comparable in price. The bathroom tiles are also Italian, because let’s face it, Italians do design better than pretty much anyone.

“The house is totally automated,” Jones said. “When you come home and disarm the alarm the lights and stereo come on.” We think this should be a basic requirement in every home.

There are lake views from the master suite’s balcony. Just imagine sipping your cappuccino in the morning watching the sun rise over the lake or, better yet, your champagne as the sun sets!
