So as Eric Nicholson over at The Dallas Observer pointed out, Mark Cuban seems to have plans to build some commercial buildings in Preston Hollow. We are talking on his 10 ish acres at the north-west corner, behind Ebby’s Little White House. In June Cuban added another acre and a half to his holdings.
Eric says Cuban bought 8601 Jourdan Way, which I have not confirmed yet. (I’m sure he is correct.) The home did sell on June 15 for $2.900,000, after an asking price of $2,999,999. So the seller shaved off $99,000. The home was incredible as we told you when Dave Perry-Miller had it listed: 7703 square feet on 1.46 acres, main house of Austin stone, expansive, mint condition, large study, huge master with his and her’s dressing areas plus work-out room, separate guest house with bedroom suite and even a below ground, temperature-controlled wine cellar and dining room.
Ha! Maybe he just wanted the wine cellar!
Commercial building plans in Preston Hollow? Like Eric says, good luck with that, Cubes. Have you been reading this blog and know how no less than two projects were just scrapped, Transwestern’s planned eight then four story apartment complex over on Townhouse Row, and then Luke Crosland’s Highland House in Preston Center in the space where a 1950’s stucco medical office currently exists. Former city council candidate Leland Burke bought the building from Crosland. Trammell Crow Holdings is re-doing the old Sanger Harris/Foley’s Department store across from that two-story parking lot, and apparently they would like a skybridge to the building, but they are not adding on any extra square footage. Get ready to have a high end Tom Thumb in Preston Center west.
City councilwoman Jennifer Gates listened to her constituents this spring and put a moratorium on major rezoning cases at Preston and Northwest Highway pending a land-use study. There’s a meeting on the plan on Thursday, October 30. Really, I anticipate this will be a huge topic — most homeowners in the area live in fear of what Mark Cuban might be doing with his land.
I recall Jennifer saying she wasn’t afraid to tell Mark Cuban no — if the neighborhood did not want to see residential land rezoned. But why would Cuban pay $2.9 for a home with a wine cellar that he doesn’t need? Is he just farming the dirt? Stay tuned!
As many of you know, I have been working with City staff and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) on the preliminary workings of a land use study for the Preston and Northwest Highway area.
The study will consist of three key categories: (1) the appropriate land-use intensity and mix; (2) the appropriate content-sensitive design for the transportation system; and (3) the necessary transportation operational improvements involving pedestrians, bicycles, and automobiles. This much needed plan will bring the neighborhoods and stakeholders together to form a common vision.
On Thursday, October 30th, we would like to share the beginnings of this land use study with you.

There will be a presentation followed by discussion on ways for you to participate in the study.
