Check Out This An Airplane Bungalow On a Tree-Lined Street of Delight

This little write-up is going to be a high list of what’s this? What’s that? Oh, man, that’s pretty.

We’ll start with the obvious … Oh, man, that’s pretty.

What is? This house. It’s an Airplane Bungalow set in the Kings Highway Historic District in Oak Cliff. Quick fact from Preservation Dallas: Kings Highway was originally constructed as a temporary apartment for Winnetka Heights in 1910.

Whaaaa? Did not know that. But, I did know it’s a cute little scenic six-block stretch with loads of historical charm.

Up next: What’s this?? This one is an Airplane Bungalow which I’m almost positive we’ve covered before. One of the key features is a “single room on the second floor, surrounded by windows, said to resemble the cockpit of an airplane, and designed as a sleeping room in the summer weather with all-around access to breezes.” I do declare.

Now, what’s that? That amazing yellow slide-in gas range.

What is that??? I mean, obviously, I just told you, it’s a slide-in range. Many companies make them, but this one is — and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say an Italian brand — Bertazzoni. I mean, do you want to rip out your stupid, boring stainless steel range that while undoubtedly great, pales in comparison to this one? Because I do. The price tag is steep, but the satisfaction of owning a yellow range will last forever.

And let’s talk about those custom wood and stainless floating shelves and the fact that these Sellers are clearly after all our hearts with that coffee bar with pump top syrups no less. The kitchen also has a built-in bench and a custom dining table. Another limb? These people are awesome.

The rest of the house is just as stunning as the kitchen. I love the original hardwoods and how they’re imperfectly perfect. The updates are classic. The fireplace is spectacular. That tile is out of sight.

One more thing about King’s Highway — and Compass’ Cynthia Gonzalez calls it out in the description — come Oct. 31, it will be teeming with trick-or-treaters. This is such a special area this time of year as the leaves change and kids candy up, it’s even more charming than ever.

It’s also right by all the good stuff in Oak Cliff. Nova, Bishop Arts, JOY Macaron, shops, restaurants, gorgeous tree-lined streets, and probably all your hopes and dreams. There’s an Open House this Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. if you want to stop by.

Gonzalez has 1147 Kings Highway listed at $785,000.
